Christian Hatkoff: Health and beauty treatments straight from the country of 1001 Nights. Hi, I'm Christian Hatkoff and welcome to watchmojo.com. Today, we're going to be finding out a little more about the traditional middle-eastern hamam. Can you tell us what a traditional middle-eastern spa is like?
Marie-Hélène Dubé: It's steam rooms. It's usually a place where either the women or the men go every week to take care of themselves, and purify themselves. They see it also as a way of purifying their body, and their soul.
Christian Hardcore: Is hamam the same thing as steam room and what's the difference?
Marie-Hélène Dubé: For the middle-eastern, it's more of a hygiene place and for us in America, I would say it's more for relaxation purpose, and to treat ourselves because we're so stressed with everyday life. We all need to go to the spa at least once every other month.
Christian Hardcore: What types of products or ingredients are used?
Marie-Hélène Dubé: First, the black soap which is a soap made with olive paste and eucalyptus, and then at the end, we use the Rassul that is from Morocco, and it's very natural and pure. It's like a rock that we've powdered and then it's mixed with rosewater and geranium.
It will hydrate the skin, purify the skin, and calm the skin, so everybody from the person with a very sensitive skin to a very thick skin can take it, and it can benefit them very well.
Christian Hardcore: So I've heard about this Argan oil. Can you tell us something about that?
Marie-Hélène Dubé: The oil is only from Morocco, because the Argan tree are just in Morocco. So we import it from there. It's 100% natural. It has many, many, many properties, anti-aging, antioxidants. You can apply it just a little bit, and mix it with your normal day cream or night cream, and it will be very beneficial for your skin and give a lot of hydration.
Christian Hardcore: What can we expect when we're in a steam room?
Marie-Hélène Dubé: You'd first start in the medium room. Your body will get used to the heat. You stay there for at least 5-10 minutes, and then you'll cross over to the warm room where it's more warm and it's so great in particular during the winter time.
Christian Hardcore: How do you use tea to help with relaxation?
Marie-Hélène Dubé: At the end of the care, we offer tea and some pastries. Tea is a time where you stop, and you have your tea. If you don't, just go, finish your care, you get ready, and you go out the door. Now, we want you to take time and just enjoy the moment and appreciate, and then after that you can go home.
