Dr. Rebecca Ringham: Jarrod, there are number of health consequences of anorexia nervosa, both physical and mental.
Physically, individuals with anorexia nervosa struggle with, they have gastrointestinal problems, they have blood circulation problems, kidney problems, they are cold all the time, their skin can become very dry, they may lose their hair or grow hair on their chest, and their torso, and many of them also eventually suffer from cardiac problems. Up to 10% of individuals with anorexia nervosa may eventually die.
Mentally, there are number of consequences as well, mainly depression and anxiety. So it's a very significant disorder in terms of the health consequences.
