Sarah: Will you be counting calories this 4th of July? Probably not, if you are like most Americans celebrating the birth of our country as much fun as it is. Eating tons of hotdogs, potato salad and guzzling beer like you are back in college. We are going to show you how you can still have a great time and still feel confident in that red, white, and blue bikini.
This 4th of July, I have few parties to go to. I know that there is going to be hotdogs, hamburgers, potato salad, everything that typically comes along with the pork, enjoying barbecue that associate being unhealthy. Now, what can I do if I am not working anything, I am just going as is and what are my best options?
Katrina: Your best options is usually there is some kind of vegetable platter and choose a dip that is a little lower in fat rate. Here, we have a low fat spinach dip and we actually whipped this up ourselves. If you do want to bring it, that is fine. But if you are trying to find a lower fat dip, you can.
Sarah: There is the potato salad and coleslaw, what is the best option? Here, we have an oyster salad with whole wheat, is better for me than to go with potato salad?
Katrina: Definitely, and to me that the low fat dressing and some olive oil, so if you again want to bring something on your own, you we can. But when you are there, just make healthier options if you have a choice between one from the other, take the coleslaw over the potato salad. So it is just decision making time when you go, so you can be healthy that you can eat the food that food that you want.
Sarah: Like most women, I have a sweet dip. What are my best options when choosing a dessert?
Katrina: Well, usually barbecues there will be some kind of thorough option. Here, we a watermelon, apples, pineapple, and raspberries and it is all in the pineapple juice. So, if this is the alcohol time, you can have it before or after dinner. And if you really have to be in your sweet too, then it is very low in calories.
Sarah: Awesome, and what about this piece?
Katrina: This is the serving size. Now, if you want dessert and you want something like a cupcake, your best option is to have just the smaller serving size. These are hundred-calorie low cupcake. You can get them at the grocery store, anything like that but if they have them at the party, choose this over on a cupcake.
Sarah: And now, I noticed that we have several smaller plates, are these for portion control or appetizer plates?
Katrina: I usually, people cut them out for appetizer plates but I would actually use that as your plate for your dinner too. So the entire barbecue, just have a smaller plate and that will help you with portion control.
Sarah: So seriously, how bad is a hamburger and the hotdogs?
Katrina: Hotdogs can run you over 350 calories and hamburgers prepare those everything to be over 400.
Sarah: Well then, what are my options then, if I go to barbecue and that is all they have?
Katrina: If they do, think about pairing maybe veggie burgers or tricky burgers, you should have those options so it will be a lot less calories. Today, we are going to make turkey burgers but open faced.
Sarah: What if the party I am going to really has no healthy options, what is my best choice?
Katrina: You can either have an open-faced hamburger or just have smaller portions. I like to just do an open-faced hamburger and you can actually split in a half and have some of it with the friends and if you cut the calories for.
