Female: Hi everyone, I am Katrina, diet.com’s fitness expert. I invited Sarah here today to celebrate the 4th of July. We are going to provide healthy options.
Female: If I am planning on throwing my own party what are some healthy options that are not traditional that can spice up my party a little bit and people would not even think I am actually forcing them to eat something than a dog or a burger.
Female: I am actually having my own 4th of July party. I have cold lettuce wraps because it is humid and above 90 and I also made a whole wheat pasta, pasta salad and I also have these organic chips that have no trans fat.
We are making angel food cake and we are going to top it with fat free Cool Whip and we are going to put blueberries and strawberries on top. It would be festive.
Female: I think this is called Stars and Stripes cake or something.
Female: Yes, there is a Stars and Stripes cake.
Female: This is angle food.
Female: Yes, this is angle food cake so it is a little less calories and instead of frosting, we are using Cool Whip so there is a little less calories. Another low calorie dessert option would be sugar free JellO so this morning I made sugar free JellO in red and it was raspberry and then blueberry flavor and that is on top with a little bit of Coo Whip and I put blueberries on the little ones so if you have a party, you can either do martini glasses or go out doors and if there is no cake, you can do a lot of plastic cups. So it is about 50 or 60 calories per serving and it is good.
Female: At 4th of July picnics, there is always plenty of food but there also plenty of activities that you can participate in so get active and stop sitting around.
Female: I know it is important to get in 30 minutes of exercise each day but to be honest with you on the 4th of July, I want to get up and go to the beach and come home and have my cookout and sometimes, we even do the cookout at the beach. There is really no time to go to the gym or go for a run. What sort of activities can I do that will help me burn of those extra calories I am probably consuming?
Female: If you are going to a party or a barbeque, you can actually bring your own equipment for sports so you bring a soccer ball, if you are going to the beach, you can play volleyball and or you can go golfing. In my case, I am actually going to lakes, so I am going to be swimming, or maybe tubing as much as I can, water skiing, playing Marco Polo, even my parents and my uncles are going to be joining in so it is going to be a lot of fun, you can make it really fun and burn off all the calories from a lot of food.
