Travis: Today we’re talking about the potential health hazards that are hiding in your food, here to teach us how to eliminate the hidden salt, sugar and fat that is in our favorite fast food dishes is author of the new book Cook This, Not That, David Zinczenko and as you can see we’re actually doing a little cooking here. Here we have Pia who’s an audience volunteer and you claim, Pia claims that she’s going to actually being to help me cook successfully, so I’m so glad you’re here to help. Pia: I’m really good, I’ll take care of you. Travis: I’m going to use Cook This Not That, Dave to prepare some easy meals, right? David: Very easy. So all you got to do is if you know how to make sunny side up eggs and you have 5 minutes, you’re in business. So if you jump in there. Travis: And we’re trying to replicate, so this is breakfast meal we’re trying to replicate Dennis Belgium Waffles Slam, which is right here and we’re going to start cooking, so Pia help me out. So what is this meal if I go get this at the restaurant? David: So that right there is 820 calories. What we’re going to do is show you how to save at least 500 calories and several dollars by making it yourself in just a few minutes. So pretty good to give you helpers. Travis: Grab, grab the couple slices of Canadian bacon and we’re going to put that on a few minutes each side and while that’s going, because eggs, crack couple eggs. Here’s an egg for you. Pia: Okay thanks so much. Travis: And we’re going to do a sunny side up right? David: Yup and I know you’re not crazy about egg yolks, Travis, but I’m here to try to get you to reconsider because you know its great for your skin, its healthy, it’s a fantastic source of vitamins and minerals and one egg is about 70 calories. So you know, and in this case we are using the yolk as the sauce for the dish. Travis: So yolks are okay, is it okay sometimes the mix in maybe in a scramble eggs do a yolk with two egg whites because sometime I’ll do that. David: Yeah its totally fine, if you just do egg whites then you’re missing a lot of the nutrition so I would try that to get at least one in there. Travis: So Dave says, don’t fear the yolk. David: Don’t fear the yolk, you’ll be in great shape. Travis: So we’re going to let this cook for how long? Davis: Just a couple of minutes, you’re going to flip normally the Canadian bacon would be about 3 to 4 minutes a side. After you end up cooking that and the eggs you’re going to basically put on a dish sprinkle some cheese over it. Great thing about the waffles it’s just a couple of minutes going to take and your whole grain waffle so you have a 2 and half grams of fiber in there. Travis: So this is toasting and we got, some other ingredients here and this is what its going to end up looking like. David: Yeah so its 270 calories, its 11 grams of fat and like I said, you’re going to be saving over 500 calories and almost the days worth the saturated fat in this one meal, in this one tasty breakfast. and you definitely want to have a healthy breakfast because it decreases your chances of obesity, 90 percent. Travis: Even people with high cholesterol, you can afford an egg yolk because the cholesterol on the egg yolk is not so go straight into your blood stream and increases your own levels of cholesterols. So, you know moderation right but if I have slightly cholesterol I can still have an egg yolk, right? David: Yeah you’re totally fine. Travis: You want to try a little bite?
