Female Speaker: Studies show babies began hearing their parent's voices as early as 20 weeks after conception. For infants and toddlers it's the sense of hearing that allows them to taking the world around them and learn.
Female Speaker 2: I love you sweetheart.

Female Speaker 1: The American Medical Association reports 7 million children in the U.S. have hearing loss significant enough to impair the ability to learn. Many of these cases are due do ear infections. But each year more then 20,000 thousand babies are born with permanent hearing losses. There are a variety of tests used to detect hearing loss in children because young kids can talk, tests often rely on audio-visual stimulation.
Dr. Heather Burge: In order to test a young child, you can't really put them under earphones and ask them to push a button when they hear a beep. So, what you do is you're a little more inventive. You put them in them booth and you have them actually condition to turning to look for a sound and then rewarding them with an animal that comes collide.
