Hi! I am Bob from Toronto, Canada. This guitar lesson video is part 1 of heavy metal guitar solo and tips. I will show some methods from soloing that I most frequently use in my metal guitar playing, and a sort of reflection of my style. Here is the first riff. It is more like a classical type of mellow riff.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Start at the 2nd string 8th fret, 1st string 6th fret, 10th fret 6th fret and to the 2nd string 6th fret. 1st string 5th fret, 8th fret, 5th fret, 2nd string 4th fret, 1st string 3rd fret, 6th fret, 3rd fret, 2nd string 3rd fret, 1st string 2nd fret, 5th fret, 2nd fret, so it is --
[Guitar Demonstration]
And you can play that same riff on different positions on the guitar like --
[Guitar Demonstration]
And so on.
Next, try utilizing the open string. Try this for example --
[Guitar Demonstration]
Play the 1st string 3rd fret, 2nd fret and pull off and do that on the 2nd string, 3rd string, 4th string, 5th string and 6th string and try doing the same pattern by starting at the 5th fret.
And now you use different combinations to come up with the riff. Let us say, the bottom two strings at the 3rd fret then at the 5th fret position, then the 7th position and the 5th fret position
Next try playing three notes in a row, so let us say for example, 1st string 1st fret, 2nd fret and 3rd fret and play that pattern on different positions. Let us say for example 1st fret, 4th fret, 7th fret, 10th fret and 13th fret and hammer it on and off like so, and I will do it faster to you.
[Guitar Demonstration]
And try playing the three notes at the same position but in different strings, for example 3rd fret position pull off then to the 2nd string, 3rd string so --
[Guitar Demonstration]
On the 5th fret position. You can also try it playing on the top two strings, say at the 5th string 3rd fret, 2nd, 1st and the top string 3rd, 2nd and 1st fret in different positions. So, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th and run it together it sounds like this --
[Guitar Demonstration]
Next is the scale which is called the half whole diminished scale. It is really easy just play a note say 1st string 1st fret and go up 1 fret, 2 frets ,1 fret, 2, frets, 1 fret, 2 frets, 1 fret, 2 frets, 1 fret, 2 frets, 1 fret and play those notes at those fret positions in various patterns say hammer ons for example.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Hammer ons and pull offs or do the same fret positions but the middle two strings in various patterns like that. And finally, the triad with the cry tone. That is the flat 5th, so that would be, so for that it is the 6th string 3rd fret, 5th string 2nd fret, 4th fret, 4th string 5th fret, 3rd string 4th fret, 6th fret, 2nd string 8th fret, 1st string 7th fret and 9th fret. And once again you can play that in different positions like for A and B.
Well, I hope this lesson has been helpful and you can see some of these riffs that I use in some of my guitar videos “Grinding Halt” “Rise of the Dragon” and “Subconscious Illusions” thanks for watching.
