Heel Spur Syndrome

TJ: Hi, I am TJ from Michigan and I'd like to know how to treat heel spur syndrome? Dr. Michael Stuart: That's a good question TJ. Heel spur syndrome is actually inflammation of the tissues that attached to the heel bone or the calcaneus. Often times, there is not a heel spur or bony prominence involved. Treatment is to reduce pressure on that area, sometimes with a shoe insert like a heel cup, also to do some stretching of that plantar fascia tissue, some strengthening of the foot muscles and sometimes night splints, which are very helpful to eliminate the problem, so that when you get up in the morning and first put weight on your foot, you don't start this inflammation process all over again.
