Heidi Montag’s Many Plastic Surgeries
Dr. Travis Stork: This is something a little bit controversial; 23-year old star of the
hills Heidi Montag had 10 plastic surgeries in one day. And
actually she went almost the complete transformation. And
consider a beautiful woman before and now she has a very
different look due to -- what are the few operations?
Dr. Andrew Ordon: Well that’s right Travis. Actually, 10 different procedures all at the
same time, a brow lift, botox to her forehead, nose job revision, fat
injection to add volume to her cheeks and lips, chin reduction,
neck liposuction, otoplasty to pin her ears back, breast
augmentation revision, upgrading, we call that Jim, liposuction on
her waist and thighs, and finally a buttock augmentation.
Dr. Travis Stork: Wow.
Dr. Lisa Masterson: Wow.
Dr. Travis Stork: So a lot of procedures and obviously we want to talk about this a
little bit because you know, given my own personal opinion, that’s
a lot of procedures to have in one day.
Dr. Andrew Ordon: You know I worry a little bit about our profession doing that many
procedures all at one time in one sitting, elective surgery doesn’t
have to be done. This is just supposedly to improve the quality of
life for somebody. That’s a lot of one setting.
Dr. Lisa Masterson: Isn’t there a bigger issue here? This girl like she’s beautiful,
absolutely beautiful to start with. She’s 23, she’s young. She’s got
to have some self esteem because she’s absolutely beautiful and
what 23-year-old needs a brow lift or botox for that matter? She
didn’t have any wrinkles on her face at all so I mean that was
totally unnecessary.
Dr. Andrew Ordon: When we’re talking about plastic surgery, the first thing we ask is,
why are they getting? Are they doing it for the right reasons?
Dr. Lisa Masterson: And we have a duty to first do no harm, and I think this girl
probably needed to sit down with a therapist or guidance
counselor. And because we all don’t need to be the cookie cutters
of some idea, we need to be ourselves and appreciate ourselves and
our own beauty. And I think that’s why she needs some guidance
and some help.
Dr. Travis Stork: Well let me tell you right now, as a young person who comes to
Hollywood and you’re put in the lime light and you have everyone
judging you, that is such a difficult position to be put in and so you
have to understand that all those external pressures do make you
feel self conscious and probably can make a beautiful woman feel
ugly. We actually invited Heidi’s plastic surgeon to join us today
in this discussion. Please welcome, Dr. Frank Ryan.
Thanks for being here, Dr. Ryan. So we’ve touched upon a few of
the what we consider to be some of the -- I don’t want to say
necessarily controversial in terms of plastic surgery because plastic
surgery is very popular and it’s done for a lot of the right reasons
but in this particular circumstance, that’s 10 procedures in one day
on an admittedly beautiful woman before the operation --
Dr. Andrew Ordon: I’m curious Frank, how long did the procedure took?
Dr. Frank Ryan: I think it took me about 7.5 hours. The anesthesia time was maybe
nine to 10 hours total. And as you know being in practice here in
L.A. is not that uncommon. This is what people do. I think it’s
controversial because the public doesn’t know frankly that a lot of
these young girls are doing these things but they just don’t talk
about it.
Dr. Lisa Masterson: But when you have someone that young who come to you and ask
for certain things and you know she doesn’t have wrinkles, do you
counsel her or is there a process to see if she’s really someone
who’s in need of maybe some help and some guidance because of
self esteem issues or is this really what she needs. Is she going to
regret this later on?
Dr. Frank Ryan: That’s the first that we do and you use the word need. No one
needs it, it’s elective cosmetic surgery. That’s the whole point of it.
She doesn’t need anything. She’s a beautiful girl, I love Heidi, and
she’s fine before she’s fine now. So it’s just an elective thing that
she chose to do partly for career actually, because she wanted to be
a blonde bomb shell, she said. I said, “Okay, let’s make you into a
blonde bomb shell” and I think she is.
Dr. Andrew Ordon: I mean looking back at it, I mean, do you still think that was a
good idea that now she is a good patient? She seems to be doing
well with it.
Dr. Frank Ryan: Yeah, I tell you; we had to hire extra staff in the office to tell you
the truth. I mean the public is just so inevitable to—
Dr. Andrew Ordon: Well good for business what I’m talking about her more in terms
of psychological.
Dr. Frank Ryan: Yeah, I get it. I’m just saying that the result was so spectacular that
she’s just as happy as the public is but she absolutely loves it.
Dr. Andrew Ordon: And we have the pictures going through her progression. I think
it’s a little bit of an over the top look. I’m not --
Dr. Travis Stork: It’s a blonde bomb shell. I think she looks good. She’s a blonde
bomb shell.
Dr. Frank Ryan: She’s less than two months. She’s still healing.
Dr. Andrew Ordon: Okay. She’s still swallowing and --
Dr. Frank Ryan: Yeah, absolutely. I grew up in Ohio and I really thought people out
here were genetically gifted. And so I think Heidi is actually -- this
is why I agreed to do the People Magazine. I knew I’d be sitting
here getting real believe me after I did this, so I wasn’t surprised.
But part of the reason I agreed to do the story with Heidi and
participate because I think having the celebrities say they didn’t do
anything, they just, they drink water in a macrobiotic diet and do
Pilates, and that’s how they look like this. It’s a lie. I think it’s
creating body dysmorphic disorder. And when they say why I
don’t look like that, I'm drink water and I’m doing Pilates. So this
is reality. This is really why these movie stars look like that and
that’s just the way it is.
Dr. Lisa Masterson: Right. That’s not what a regular 23-year-old looks like.
Dr. Travis Stork: Thanks for sharing your story with us. Today, we appreciate Dr.
Frank.
