Help Home Sale with Plants
Narrator: We all know selling house can be a huge challenge. Add to that, when the house is already almost empty, it can certainly lack visual appeal. Enter Marianne Binetti, an innovated gardener with a plan to pep-up this pad with households.
Marianne Binetti: Well, I’ve got one great plant already. This is Cordyline. You see how dark purple these leaves are? This is great because it’s going to standout against the white walls of the house that we’re staging. But even though I have this dark foliage and a nice tall plant, what I’m looking for – whoa – is something like this. Now, this is what we call schefflera and another name for this is the umbrella tree. But notice how the leaves have a lot of verrugated or this white, this creamy color in them. That means its going to light up a dark area of house.
This is the Red Dragon Dracaena. So it has this dark— a lot of the red is almost a maroon or burgundy leaf color, perfect for the bedroom. This, if you can buy just one plant to stage your house with, it is the palm.
Narrator: Now that we’ve got some height, we can’t forget the ever important aroma.
Marianne Binetti: This is a hyacinth. I call it a “hya scent” because it smells so wonderful. And I’m going to take this for sure, just one as enough to perfume the entire room.
Narrator: Gerbera daisies make look pretty, but they dry out very quickly. Marianne says use them only if you’re around the water, although these next guys are pretty low maintenance.
Marianne Binetti: Bromeliads are very forgiving. They can live in this house even though it’s going to be empty because we just fill these little cups of water, and they are going to do just wonderful.
Narrator: Since some plants come in plastic pots, we’ll need to add to their attraction.
Marianne Binetti: Oh wow, we have some pots here and they come with matching saucers and this now it looks great but also it helps protect our surfaces. Now a pot on this size is just right, because it’s bigger than six inch plastic pots of this Red Dragon Dracaena that we have. So you see how much bigger the potted plant looks when it’s in a pot, that’s a lot bigger than a plastic size.
We got some great pot, some great plants. We’re ready to go and get this house staged. Now here we are in this almost empty house. A few pieces of furniture is all we have to stage with and we have nice freshly painted walls. It’s a clean slate, but it is very cold and sterile looking.
Narrator: A colorful pot can add a lot of color to a bland spot. Plus, it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than a couch.
Marianne Binetti: Now, this is the houseplant call Cordyline, and Cordyline has a deep red color which stands out beautifully against this plain white walls. It takes a place for the fact that there’s no artwork, there’s no wallpaper and there’s no window covering.
Narrator: Houseplants can sure to solve problems, but don’t overlook using other elements. These bamboo stakes and garden glow, really add a punch of pizzazz to an otherwise boring corner.
Marianne Binetti: And so now you can see we’ve done. We’ve got a lot of height, we’ve added natural elements, and textures in the corner by using just one medium size plant. So here we have this great big picture window and here’s the easy answer. This a garden bench moved indoors and we’re going to decorate it with living houseplants.
Narrator: These plants are playing double duty. They look great from the inside and from the outside it looks like the house is occupied. What a deal.
Marianne Binetti: Oh here’s an easy solution for the problem of an empty table. Polished rocks, is you can find rocks like these at the garden center again and by arranging them on an empty plate and you filled it up with some texture and some shine.
Narrator: We’ve got to look now but this place is still missing something, there’s no where to sit.
Marianne Binetti: By having just a chair and using houseplants, the bright red pot and low water -- adds texture and adds a little shot of color that matches the blanket. But then, we’re going to add a wall, just the illusion of a wall by using this. This is the majestic palm and this is the absolutely best houseplant for your money. That’s because you get so much height and texture and color. Let me show you.
Narrator: Now it looks like we’ve added in a whole wall. And the best part, it feels a little more like home. But you don’t have to spend all of your time at home reading, you need to have a little fun too.
Marianne Binetti: Now this eating bar, we want to showcase as of entertainment area. So by showcasing with a bottled wine and some wine glasses, we give some great entertaining ideas and then staying with that entertaining theme, corks. Recycled wine corks onto your indoor houseplants as a mulch. Not only does it hide the pots, but it kind of gives a really neat texture.
Narrator: Bromilian bright in the counter with a little color, but the kitchen just wouldn’t feel right without a pleasing aroma. Remember those sweet smelling Hyacinths we bought.
Marianne Binetti: So by standing right here on this counter at nose level, we not only have a lot of beauty in the house as you come in, but great fragrance as well.
Narrator: And now its time to see of all our hard work has paid off.
