Raena Morgan: How does Sweet Orange affect diabetes?
Dr. Frank Murray: Yes, well again it involves the circulation. With diabetes the circulation clamps down at the lower extremities, in other words, blood is not getting through to the veins and the capillaries. And, Sweet Orange is fantastic for dilating those blood vessels, allowing more blood to come through. There's something like 20 million diabetics in the U.S. There's 6 million who have it and don't know they have it. Equally alarming, there are 50 million people who are pre-diabetic. That means they're just one step away from diabetes. And, as we know, this is a terrible condition. It's now an epidemic. And, I said recently, it's a pandemic because it's exploding in China and India, in Mexico, the Philippines -- all over the world.
Raena Morgan: So, it's not just Americans and their obesity problems?
Dr. Frank Murray: It's not just Americans, oh my, if Americans get any fatter they're going to explode. I've never seen so many obese people, and this is impacting on their health. It causes blindness; it ruins their kidneys. The feet are a tremendous problem. The circulation isn't getting through to their feet; they may have to have them amputated, a foot or a leg amputated because the limbs are atrophying from lack of blood.
Raena Morgan: And, Sweet Orange can affect that?
Dr. Frank Murray: Sweet Orange is fantastic, again, for dilating blood vessels and getting more blood through to the lower extremities and strengthening, also, the veins and the capillaries.
Raena Morgan: And, this is something that diabetics typically have a problem with is circulation?
Dr. Frank Murray: Oh, absolutely. Well, as the blood is collecting in the lower veins, the red blood vessels are clamping together and causing problems. And, again, it may cause blindness, as I say; the kidneys may fail, so the Sweet Orange is tremendous, again, for allowing blood to flow through the rest of the body. It's amazing; people with diabetes may have problems with their feet. They may step on a tack or a piece of glass and does not even feel it.
Raena Morgan: Because of the numbness.
Dr. Frank Murray: Capillaries and the veins, more or less, atrophy and so they need the Sweet Orange, the diosmin supplement, to allow more blood to flow through.
Raena Morgan: And, when the blood flows through then you have the sensations again?
Dr. Frank Murray: That's true, yes. Again, it causes cataracts, all kinds of problems with the eyes. And, they say blindness is a major problem. But, even more prominent is heart disease; it's the number one killer of diabetics.
Raena Morgan: And so, it positively affects heart disease?
Dr. Frank Murray: Oh, absolutely.
Raena Morgan: All right.
Dr. Frank Murray: Anything that strengthens the blood getting through the lower extremities is extremely important.
