Helping Adults with ADHD Become More Organized

Hi! My name is Deborah Gray and I am an ADHD patient advocate. Today, I am going to discuss how adults with ADHD can become more organized. Remember that there is no one right way to organize yourself. The one that works for you is the right one. People with ADHD are often very visual, so work with that instead of against it. Try out a few different organizing methods and pick one that seems to fit your style. Take baby steps with your organizing projects. The balance enthusiasm that most people with ADHD have means that will often end up taking of too much when we talk about projects.

Instead of vowing to organize your entire house on weekends, start with the area of the house that is really getting on your nerves or keeping you from being productive. Get the right tool for the job. Do tend to forget appointments? Get yourself portable daily planner either paper or electronic. Enter appointments and reminders into it right away since chances are good that they’ll slip your mind otherwise.

Is your bank account frequently overdrawn? Get some money management software like Quicken and religiously enter your expenditures.
