Helping a Loved One Recover from a Heart Crisis
Dr. Travis: Jamie Colby of Fox News and her husband Dr. Marc Wallack are here today to help share tips on how to recover after a heart crisis.
Dr. Jim: Now Jamie and Marc, you both co-authored this book Back to Life after a Heart Crisis. Now Jamie why did you decide to put all these tips out there?
Jamie: 25% of Americans are caregivers right now. In average time, they take care of a love one as 4.6 years that’s a long time. I went on the internet. I'm a correspondent and an anchor, but I'm also an attorney. I'm trained to get answers. And I couldn’t find any and I'm hoping I can reach out to other people caring for loved ones and help them maneuver the hospital, the recovery, even here in the diagnosis.
The last thing Marc heard from his doctor was you have severe heart disease. He didn’t remember anything after that like you have options. That was up to me as the love one. It’s a heavy burden and I hope to make it easier. Now he’s operating, teaching residents, making love to me, yes, it’s okay. I don’t want to brag.
Dr. Marc: I didn’t think we're going to talk about this.
Jamie: But you know, well the thing is intimacy is very important to fully living your life and Marc was scared as anybody would be. And its okay, it’s a great scene in a movie, but you will not die having sex after a heart attack or heart surprises in Marc’s case. 20 in 1 million people do, but at least they have it.
Dr. Travis: I’ll take those odds.
Jamie: Exactly, yes.
Dr. Travis: So point is, not a reason to stop living your life. Thank you both for not only co-authoring this book—.
Jaime: Thank you.
Marc: Thanks for having us.
