Welcome to “How to Grow your own Container Garden”, my name is Amy Stewart and I am the founder and director of Project Wellness. I have been gardening for most of my life. I started when I was a child with my mom. And since that time, I have grown things both in containers as well as in the ground and there is definitely a lot to be said for both.
I love to have fresh organically grown herbs on hand for two reasons. One is because they save me money. And the other reason is that I know they’re healthy for me and my family to eat. And, it just creates a great opportunity in the summer to have fresh salad dressings, salsas and stuff like that on hand at all times.
So today, as you’re preparing for your own container herb garden, I’m going to suggest a few things that you may want to have on hand and available. And as we go along through the clips, I’ll also be introducing some additional things that you may also need. So take those tips as they come and certainly, you can always pause me if you need to.
So the first thing that you’re going to need is to select a container and I’m going to talk a little bit more about that as we go. I actually have two containers here. You’ll need a watering can, you will need to have some selected plants and seeds that if you choose to use one or the other or both, and we’ll discuss all of that today. I also went around and gathered some rocks out of my yard and I’ll show you what to do with those. I gathered my drill, some organic fertilizer, some safety goggles and measuring spoon.
And lastly, since we are going to do some transplanting of sprouts, I have the little sprout that my daughter grew in Montessori school last month. So we’ll be transplanting that for her while she’s not here. And that’s what we’re going to do today to create your own container garden.
