High-tech gadgets at the Tokyo Toy Show 2009

Tokyo’s Toy Show opened on Thursday showcasing some of the latest high tech gadgets from Japan. One of Japan’s best loved animation characters Doraimon is transformed into a robot in this spun by toy. It’s packed with 1,300 watts and will react conversation from its owner although it lacks the ability to really understand what’s being said. The 16 centimeter high device has e-paper eyes and will hit stores in Japan on September 3rd. It will cost 31,500 yen, that’s around 336 US dollars. Electronics pets are all over the show from the silly to the more expensive and serious. In Japan, many apartment buildings don’t allow pets so these toys might be the closest some families can come to having a dog or cat. This cat from Sega has senses embedded around its body to respond to touch and light and will cost 10,500 yen or around 112 US dollars make goes on sale on July 30th. And at half the price, there’s even a pet for bath time. Need to be motivated to take a walk? Bandai’s Yunoke combines a pedometer with a digital story that develops as take steps. The more you walk, the more you see of the story. It’s targeted at 30 something miles, you don’t get enough exercise and goes on sale on Saturday for 4725 yen, that’s around 50 US dollars. And the going against the digital camera markets pursued of higher resolution images is this camera from Takaratomi. Designed for kids, it can be switched to produce several fun distortions. Some like the effects you get from magic mirrors. There’s no launch date yet but it will cost 12,600 yen, around 134 US dollars. And also among Talk of the Tomi’s high tech gadgets this MP3 player and digital camera from Lego. Lego announced the products earlier this year and they’ll be available worldwide. Japan’s toy market shrank by about one percent last year but high tech toys suffered the decline around 5 percent according to industry figures.
