History of Jazz

Hi, Dan Moss in the chair and I’ll be talking to you today about the history of jazz. Jazz has a long rich history which began in the early 1920’s when Louie Armstrong began playing swung or bouncing eight notes on his trumpet. Swing became the most popular genre of music until the 1950’s when rock and roll took over as what we know today as pop music and swing was the quaint essential ingredient of jazz until the 1960’s when Miles Davis began playing straight eight notes instead of swing eight notes in his recordings. The most popular forms of jazz that we would hear about today come from the stylings of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman. This are the jazz recordings you are most likely to find on your grandparents bookshelf, however jazz had a much deeper and richer history than what you might find in your grandparents bookshelves, so what I’m going to do today is help you to find the super cool really awesome recordings that even you. The young dude or chick out there can come to love.
