Shalom! This video is a quick little course in world religion. Just to tell you some of the basic religions, when they were founded and how they got organized.
Well, the very first one of modern religion is Judaism, founded by Abraham about four thousand years ago in around 1800 BCE. Next comes is Hinduism, developed in India around 1500 BCE, about 300 or 400 years after Abraham and before Moses. If you are Buddhist, your religion is split from Hinduism and was founded by Buddha Prince Siddhartha of India, about 500 BC—a thousand years after Hinduism. So, the Roman Catholic Church obviously started because of Jesus, in the year 33. If you are a Muslim, Mohammad started your religion what is now Saudi Arabia around 600 of the common era, so that would be 2400 hundred years after Abraham.
If you use your Eastern Orthodox, your sect is separated from Catholicism about a thousand of CE, about a thousand years ago. Lutheranism is founded by Martin Luther an ex-monk in 1517. Anglochems, the Church of England was started by King Henry the VIII in 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to remarried.
Now, various Christians and other denominations, first Presbyterianism for example, part of Protestantism. Church is founded by when John Knox brought teaching of John Calvin to Scotland in 1560. And then Unitarianism was a religious group developed in the 1500. Congregationalists branched off from Puritanism in the 1600 in England. Baptists—The tenants of your Faith to John Smith which might be launched in Amsterdam in the Netherlands in 1607. Methodists’ church was founded by John and Charles Wesley in 1744.
Episcopalians were brought here from England to American counties and became a separate church founded by Samuel C. Burien, 1789. Mormons, The Latter Day Saints—Joseph Smith started that in New York in 1830. If you worship with the Salvation Army, it is a religious group, a sect started by William Booth in London in 1865. Christian Science—1879 by Mary Baker Eddy. Jehovah’s Witness by Charles Russel in Pennsylvania in 1870s. Pentecostals in United States in 1901.
So, the oldest is the Jews from Abraham and 1800 BCE. It is fascinating to see how all of these developed. I hope that it is interesting to you, a little history of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. I did not mention the specific to dominations of Judaism which I have done on other videos.
