The next product we would like to recommend is different marks with working DVD. This one is $29.95 and you can get this from David’s website at djmarks.com.
If you are not familiar with David, he is the host of the wood working show, wood works on the DIY Channel. He is actually just an incredible wood worker and I had the good fortune of apprenticing with David a few years back. If you have ever seen any of his work, David is just amazing, he is an amazing artist, and he is amazing as a friend and a person. His work is just never strict, everything is curved and that is really a tough barrier for a lot of wood workers to breakthrough. You would want to make everything straight. We are comfortable with shaker and michi style furniture. But how do we start making things curved? That is what this DVD is all about. It is actually focused on jigs and fixtures to create curved linear work. So it is definitely if you really want to start stepping up the complexity of your projects and moving on to that next level, that is a good way to start.
Now, we are going to talk about the $50.00 and plus category. This is really a power tool territory that they were in. so if you are wanting to buy a power tool, we recommend that you actually talk with your wood worker about the type of tools that they are really wanting for Christmas. So, what we like to do instead of talking about power tools, is kind of talk about some alternatives in this price category range.
The first product that we are going to talk about in this $50.00 plus range is the work tunes headset. This is going to run $59.95 and again you can get this at the Wood Whisperer’s Store. On many occasions I have gone and tried to get Mark’s attention, and long behold, he is wearing these things and so I have to do a little light-flashing thing and that does not go over so well either.
Can I sing for you?
Of course
I have had a lot of request from more singing and you start singing. I am just kidding. These guys are awesome. I believe that they have like a 22 decibel protection. There ear muffs and there are radio at the same time.
The next product that we are going to recommend is similar to the past product that we have just talked about, the headset. This is actually by the same company and it is the worktunesi3 headset. Now, there are some additional features with this headset if you are looking to be attaching your iPod to it.
It is actually the same price. Interestingly enough, I did a little research last night and founded $30.00 cheaper than my other sources at serious.com. It is $59.99 and that is the same price that the other work tunes are available for except for this actually, not only that they have the AM/FM tuner but they also have a port. So, you could plug in an Mp3 or an iPod which is awesome for me because I like to listen to pod cast during the day and this are just very comfortable things to wear and if I got the content I want going through them, I am a happy camper all day. So, I highly recommend them. Two thumbs up, and that is on my list. I want it. Okay?
Okay. So the next product that we are going to recommend is a branding iron. This particular one, we got it at rockler.com and it runs for $69.99.
It is actually pretty cool, I mean a lot of guys want to know, and girls want to know how do you sign your work? How do you actually put your names on it?
This is one way to do it, it is an awesome branding iron and it is crafted by and they will put your name on it for you. You just basically heat it up for about ten minutes, press it to the work piece, usually somewhere out of the way and it brands it right in there and it will last forever. So, very cool gift. Again, something that I would not necessarily buy for myself but I did receive this as a gift so I use it all the time. It is also good for marking your property.
[Laughing]
Now I know we have mentioned specific items in different price ranges that are really going to help you out. But I just a little bit more advice if you really are stuck for an idea. If you happen to be somebody who likes to frequent yard sales or flea markets, thing of that nature. Keep your eyes peeled for hand planes and bench planes. You can get these old classic plains for dollars, $3.00, and $5.00, whatever it is. They are very cheap and I do not know any wood worker that would turn down a free plane. It is just a nice refurbishing project. There is a lot of information on the net about how to process them. It is a lot of fun and it is a great way to estrus up a classic tool even if you never really used it. You can put on your shelve, it is a great decoration but most of them are completely serviceable, very cheap, really inexpensive way to make a wood worker happy.
We hope you enjoyed our holiday gift guide pod cast, whether you get your gifts from either from catalogues, the internet, our store or even the freaking water stores themselves. We hope this information will help you get the perfect for your wood worker.
