The holiday season is a time for celebrating. Unfortunately, it is also a peak time for home fires. Each December, there are nearly 128,000 fires which injure 16,000 people and claim 415 lives.
The Electrical Safety Foundation International recommends following these tips to prevent electrical fires during the holiday season. Inspect your electrical products; look for crack or freight of lines chords, exposed wires and loose connections.
Flickering lights trips circuit breakers or blown fuses are warning signs that your home’s electrical outlets maybe overloaded.
When decorating, do not staple of nail through a light strings or chords. Keep outside decorations clear of snow and standing water.
Make sure the product is marked for outdoor use. Finally, always turn off and unplug holiday decorations before leaving home or going to bed.
