That is related to fires caused by children at play are surprisingly high during the winter months. In December, the number is doubled its year round average. The Electrical Safety Foundation International reminds parents that electrical shocks involving children dramatically increase when not supervised by an adult.

To prevent both burns and electrical shocks, do not give children under the age of 10 a toy that has to be plugged in. Instead buy battery operated toys. Avoid buying toys that could be highly flammable and make sure they have a fire safety label from an independent testing laboratory. Toys are not the only hazard. Look for and eliminate potential danger spots near candles, fire place, trees and or electrical connections.

Lights hanged or strung across a wall or window maybe low enough for a small child to grab.
