Shalom, this is Rabbi Jonathan Ginsburg of the Ezra-Habonim, Niles Township Jewish Congregation in Skokie. This video is about holocaust 2007 and what is new about holocaust research and the arts, the literature, the music and remembering it. The back track of this is a recent decision by England who drop holocaust teaching from their curriculum but it might hurt the feeling of the Muslim students who have been taught the holocaust did not exist. The back track also is a decision by a representative of the Vatican not to attend holocaust programs and event in Israel because they are upset that Yabishem that picks the truth about the Pope in world war 2 who did virtually did nothing top save the Jews.
It might have done a little bit but management of the Pope would have lent us full way to say what the Natzi’s were doing was a cardinal sin and a sin against humanity. Now the last couple of Popes have been much better about recognizing Israel and about denying the lie about Jews killing Jesus but this recent decision by the Vatican to try and make the Pope to say after what he failed to do to help save anyone in world war 2 especially the Jews is a back track and finally we are facing a new holocaust. The president of Iran believes that he wants to wipes Israel off the face of the map. They like to invasion the world without America and people continue to deal with him like he is some kind of diplomat when he should be shown as a mass murderer in projection and hope.
So what is new about holocaust research this year? Well first, there is interesting diary in photo exhibit. Photo exhibit is called the vanishing word of polar Jews and their pictures making a tour of jewelry before the holocaust from Poland. It is not pictures of people on a beach and people going about their normal business and what is particularly starling about this exhibit is that all these people are dead a few years later in the Holocaust. Ely Mussel when he saw this home span collection according to the New York Times told friends, you want to grab these people and warn them, run away do something but off course most Jews did not perceive the scope the menace they faced. Soon a new diary will be release, the diary is called the Diary of Peter Ginz 1941 to 1942. The book is available in stores and in online. It is his first diary as a young Czech boy living in Prague in 1941 and what he begin to observe first wearing the star. He is 13 years old and ride amuses in his diary. When I went to school I caught a 69 sheriff, the yellow badges. Off course a very appointive moving diary bout his Romanism.
Then we have a new book ought about Argentina and the book is called Real Odysseus smothering the Natzi’s to pull out Argentina. The book I edited in 2002, this book is certainly worth the reading about Argentina’s complexity and bringing Natzi’s into Argentina and sheltering them and giving them aid and comfort. Off course, Ackmed was been kidnapped out of Argentina by Israelites to come to justice for this mass murdering complicity of 3 million Jews but this book details so much of Argentina and Perons involvement with the Natzi’s.
But then we on also on the disappointment is sad signs, a brilliant broad way play that was until May 5th on broad way called the accomplices, which places the holocaust first in a lie of initial American non-involvement in the face of Jeneside. The place seeks to correct or at least make a more complex notion of them as of America as a force of pure good. World War II of course, world should be grateful that they entered the war and stop Natzi’s but they could not have done so much more and they abandoned the Jews to turn away the Saint Louis and not allow Jews to come here to try to escape the horrible prosecution in Europe who left many to die that could not come to safety and the play is about a young Zinous activist name Hello Cook who arrived in New York from Palestine determined to persuade the United States Government to open it’s arm to Jewish refugees fling the Natzi’s but to know avail.
That coincides with the mixed review of President Roosevelt who of course entered the war finally on the side of the allies against the Natzi’s but did not enter, did not force America to come in earlier and then you have the whole question of why America did not bomb Aushavits to stop the killing. Interesting new research on Senator George Mcgovern who was one of the pilots in World War 2 and strongly advocated bombing Aushavits, then you have a new book called Diplomatic Heroes of the Holocaust. It is a very slim book which according to the New York Times review is where the most telling things about it but on the other hand while European embassies were filled with thousand of officials, very few of them were proved willing to toss aside protocols and instruction to save lives threat of these peoples, threaten by death but this book highlights 29 who did not only Rowel Laurinburg of course the most famous but others and they go along with the heroes of the gentiles Hasidehumoto Olam the righteous gentiles who help save lives.
And so as we think about these developments in adding to our understanding of the Holocaust were so saddened by this decision of the Britain which once stood for freedom and democracy to cave into this unbelievably bizarre and hateful idea that we should not teach the truth about history in the mass murder of Jews because it might offend the emotions of young Muslims who have been taught by the holocaust did not exist. The same guy who has the holocaust denial conference in Iran wants to destroy mass murder again, the Jewish people. President of Iran and the world sits by and so far his continuing to marshal his weapons which will threaten not only Israel but Europe and United States and the Idea to give the saint to it to the Pope Pious of the holocaust who virtually did nothing and let the Catholic church sit by while millions and millions were killed.
So as the holocaust reported in 2007, some of the new research and literature and art and photographs and books that something to contemplate and process as we continue our hope for a world of peace and understanding. Finally we just have to shake our heads in deep sadness of the mass murder and mayhem and destruction going on and Darfur in other areas of the world while the world sits by and allows it to happen, have to ask have we learned nothing?
