Father Mathew Presents the Sacraments
Part one
Holy Baptism
Father Mathew: Greetings everyone, It is me Mathew Morets, one of the priests here at Christ church in Ryan, New York. And, this is the first of the eight videos that I will be making on the sacraments. One of the things, that the church does the best making God’s grace visible and tangible. So, let us begin at the beginning with the sacrament of baptism.

Father Mathew: I am still willing from the first two baptism s of my priestly careers. Laclin and Brayley. Two babies baptized in this very front with the church that was filled to the brim. What just happened, I cannot see.
Baptism happens. Baptism is one of the two great sacraments of the gospel, whether young or old. Baptism is how God adopts it into the church. I am going to try to show you how this ancient right halts but, you have to bear with me we do not allow pictures during the event, too distracting, sorry.
The infants were presented, and they promised to raise their child in the Christian faith, with God helps of course. The sponsors then they did several promises on behalf of their child, mainly to renounce evil and to follow and trust God. And everyone in the church promises to support them in their commitment by saying, we will.
The water was then blessed by yours truly and the children were then baptized in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the Holy Spirit. Their baptism is then sealed by oil, consecrated by our bishop.
Male 1: Look at you.
Father Mathew: The infant is then received into the body of Christ the church.
Male 2: Bravo, we got it.
Father Mathew: And then, the finale. The time congregation is sprinkle with water, using the aspergillum.
I hope that this cursory explanation of baptism does not make you any less mysterious. There are multiple layers of meaning to this; every sacrament is full of hidden graces.
It is a sign of being wash, cleaned of our sins. It is a sign of passing through water like the ancient Israelites did at the exodus from slavery into freedom. And, it is a sign of sharing in Christ death of being drowned.
Oh, do not be scared. It is also a sign of new life of being born again through God’s will of sharing with Christ in the resurrection, that is why we have the Easter Pascal candle out.
Thanks for watching everybody. I hope you will join me next time for the second installment of Father Mathew presents the sacraments and I hope you have seen that we primarily baptize, because God’s loves us and you will be a little bit more on a know the next time you see one. If you have not ever been Baptist, I hope you will consider it. You are cordially invited to this or any Episcopal Church. Come on in. The water is fine.
