Louise Meakes: Sand in my Toes is launched in 2007. It was set up to basically on our experience to try to find somewhere online. We wanted to create a site that was easy to use and start designer brands so we people could go on and find everything they wanted in one place.
Sarah Meakes: The brands we chose were based on what we like. It’s basically off style and we like kind of different brands, slightly higher end designer stuff that we couldn’t find on the high street.
Louise Meakes: The ranges that we start are Melissa Odabash, Jets, Papillon Bleu, the Kaftans, Aguaclara and new for 2009 we have Pistol Panties and Moontide.
Sarah Meakes: With Melissa Odabash, you’ll see the bikinis on look of celebrities. They are high quality, really good cup, really good fit so that’s why we went for that. Jets are the same. That’s a really premium brand. The fabrics in the swimwear are really high end. Moontide is the younger brand. It’s quite funky. It’s fun, slightly less expensive. You know we wanted to offer a range and Aguaclara is South American brand from Peru. It’s beautiful, lots of hand stitching, hand embroidery and so we wanted a range of different styles with a sexy, classic stylish so these are what we feel are brands represent.
Louise Meakes: Choosing your swim wear which I would feel honeymoon obviously it’s very sort of high end. You want to spend money. You want to feel glamorous once worn on honeymoon. So what you try to do really is it kind of pick up pieces that people could take away in terms of having like a one-piece if you’re going on a cruise or in bikinis and you’ve got sort of different styles there whether you want more of a cover-up in terms of tankini of string bikini. And then sort of matching kaftans or kaftans that complement the bikini or one-piece that you’re wearing and really just we’re trying to provide a one-stop shop say with what the kaftans, you’ve got flip-flops. Our ranges are continuing to grow.
Sarah Meakes: There are basically four classic shapes. You would have the apple, the pear, the rectangle and the hourglass. Now, an hourglass is a very balanced figure and if you’re lucky enough to have an hourglass maybe you can pretty much wear any style of bikini. Pear shaped is triangular shape. You’re wider at your bottom and your hips and you are a bit tall. So for that shape, you need to draw attention away from the bottom half and up to the top. The apple shape, you’re wider at the top than at the bottom so again the same principle applies to draw attention away from the top down to the bottom area. And rectangular, I’m a rectangle so I’m very straight up and down, not much definition at the waist so you need to create curves with this kind of shape.
Louise Meakes: We have different price ranges say Moontide starts from 40 pounds and then we have sort of a mixed ranges with Aguaclara which starts 90 pounds and the high end is really sort of Jets, Melissa Odabash and anything from several hundreds up to 165 pounds.
Sarah Meakes: We think our site is particularly good for brides because we have a lot of high end luxury lines and our kaftans will complement the bikinis that we’ve got the one-pieces. The sort of kind of glamorous cruise style wear that it’s going to fit well on a five star resort. Your honeymoon is not just any alterations. You got to want to look good all the time and our range reflect that. You spent a lot of time on the beach or in the sea and you want to wear something that you’re going to look good all the time. You’re going to look special for your partner and we think that our range really does reflect that.
