George Watts: There is only one-way to arrive at the church in style and that’s of course ride horse and carriage. Today, I’m here at Ascot Carriages to take a test drive. So I’m here with Joe from Ascot Carriages who specialize in horse strong carriages for weddings. Joe welcome to the program. Thanks for letting us come and see you today.
Jo Buick: You’re welcome.
George Watts: Now I have to ask what you’re doing it looks like a bit of preparation maybe.
Joe Buick: Well I’m just getting William ready. This is Prince William. He is a miniature Shetland pony and he is 34 inches hung out though with us. He is our smallest horse and he is fantastic little driving pony.
George Watts: So Jo tell me a bit about how Ascot Carriages started?
Jo Buick: Well this is a second career for me. Originally, I was Personnel Manager and then I have my family and all of a sudden I have horses then. But, I did grow up on the farm and I had horse strong at 11. And we have breed of the variance and then about 10 years ago I met Roy and he trained me to drive a carriage and people also will be asked to a wedding for them and we said, “Yes, of course” and it started from that really.
George Watts: It’s almost a bit that little than large Cherry isn’t it so this big chap behind you.
Jo Buick: And then behind us here we’ve got Diamond Prince. He’s 16 hands and we use him for each and wedding possessions of Asian Weddings.
George Watts: Fantastic. So is that a different thing to do it maybe a tradition instead of white wedding.
Jo Buick: Oh, yes. It is totally different. The groom will ride the horse to meet his bride and the bride’s parents. The horse is dressed in a very colorful costume, the diamonds and red and gold and I work with him to the sound of the adult drummer.
George Watts: So do you find when people come to you they have a love of horses.
Jo Buick: Quite often they do but there are the people who perhaps having not she met a horse before but they just love the idea of the fairy tale wedding, the horse and carriage. It’s just such a romantic and different thing to do.
George Watts: So Jo any strings destinations on your travels?
Jo Buick: Well we’ve been to some very prestigious places. We’ve been to the Rome elementary academy centers and that was very interesting because we did have a to polo sports for security reasons and that was a very, very nice wedding and beautiful day. The other place we work at is quite of these Ascots and there’s a brilliant change of the point that the Golden Gates in cheap side road, the original gates that Queen Anne used to go to Ascot when she was around in 1700.
George Watts: So Jo what’s going to happen now?
Jo Buick: Well this is a Besepian Darwin [ph]. He is the most experienced carriage horse and now we’ve groomed him. We’re going to take him up and we’re going to put him in the carriage and take him for a carriage ride.
George Watts: And that’s the ride.
Joe Buick: Yes and we might even get you in the reigns.
George Watts: I have to say it this really is the way to arrive in the serious style but a quite of time and the self now.
