Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I'm your host Derrick Schommer. This week we’re going to cover the Lemon Drop.
It’s a very simple drink, got a lemon vodka, lemon infused vodka, citrus, citrunes, citrin whatever you want to call these tons of different types, and a little orange peel Cointreau. We’re also going to add some actual natural lemon to the equation and a garnish. It seems very simple right? Now, let’s keep going.
Support our handy dandy little shot glasses here. This measures one ounce. You can leave this in your freezer so it’s kind of fade if it’s been in the freezer for I don’t know like a month or two waiting specifically for this episode. Freaking cold, we’re going to get out our shaker as a good way to start. Going to do 2-1/2 ounces, if you can hold this, one, two, what if they have like share or something to kind of standardized this stuff, somebody could get injure doing this.
Alright, put the top on that, let that guy warm up. We’re going to do a 1/2 ounce of Cointreau. Give a little orangey taste kind of a mix up. You don’t want to be over powering amount of lemon. We’ve already got lemon infused vodka. We’ve got lemons and we’re going to do a half of fresh squeezed lemon. We’re going to need each one of these cool things. We’ve used this before on the show. It won’t be the last time. Jam that sucker in there, nothing like a little fresh lemon. This one’s fighting me, get in there. There you go.
I’ll squeeze the other side in, add a little extra. This is not as juicy as I was hoping it would be. There you go, that gives you your natural lemon taste. If you want to you, don’t want to fight you can just use the pre-made, looks like a little plastic lemon you can buy and squeeze a half ounce you’d be good to go. I like to go natural, so more organic taste. We’re going to shake that up using our cocktail glass like the last episode, pour that in there.
We can get some seeds now that’s organic. Seeds floating around, adds to the presentation. Drop a little garnish in there, look at that all fancy like kind of looks I would equate it to lemonade which would almost make sense considering what’s in it. It smells like lemonade actually. It’s even got the sweetness factor that you smell from real lemonade. Just try it out.
Wow! That is rum. The aftertaste is definitely vodka. If you’re not a vodka lover, don’t do this one. The other thing you can do if you want you cut some on that sour lemon, impact on your palate. You can line this with sugar if you’re doing this for guests. You can buy the pre-made. It’s like a little plastic sugar container. You can dunk it in or you can spread it out on a plate or what-not and you could do one of these little deals here. Get it all sticky and then drop the sugar on before putting the beverage in of course, and that might catch some of the edge if you’re not completely sure about the sourness from this drink using the natural lemon you’re going to get a little more sour.
The vodka is your aftertaste. Overall you’re looking at a more citrus, acidic drink. They’re very refreshing; good for lemonade lovers if you like both, you’ll like lemonade. This right here is your drink.
It is pretty potent, not very sweet, so you want to consider that. That’s the lemon drop, so one more taste. Yes, the edge doesn’t seem to go away, maybe if you drink a few at home. It won’t be as sour. It gets you right here, a sour bite.
