Hot Topic with Bill Larson
Better
Audra: Welcome back everybody it’s time for a Hot Topics and we’ve actually
asked Bill Larson to stick around for us. You saw him earlier in the show.
Bill lost 175 pounds. No surgery, no special food, diet programs or
anything like that. You did it all on your own and you have a real
inspirational story out there for people that not only want to lose let’s say
175, 200 pounds but even 5 or 10 pounds it doesn’t matter, right your
chips work great about it.
Bill: No, it does and one of the thing. I never set out to lose 175 pounds when I
began. I started by wanting to lose just 10 so that I could stop and ate that
was in my knee.
Audra: Really.
Bill: It’s my belief that if you set out on a journey of 175 it’s just going to
overwhelm you.
Audra: Right, right.
Bill: So you can start out with things in your home like using your stairs as a
stair master or just doing sit ups in bed or even pushups at home cutting
those things but also having realistic small steps that you can take so thaqt
you feel like you’re accomplishing something.
Audra: And you mentioned too you said you were dealing with health issues that
no person in their 30’s right. 30s should be dealing with.
Bill: Correct. In my mid 30s I had joints that were giving me arthritic pains. I
had sleep apnea really bad and I had high blood pressure and I knew that
that combined with the weight that I was carrying around on my heart and
my limbs it was one day going to kill me so I decided I had to do
something about it.
Audra: Earlier in the show I know you mentioned that part of the beginning of the
weight came on when you were a child that you didn’t have a lot of money
to eat certain types of food so fast food was there and I’m looking at the
notes here and you used to have for breakfast two McDonald’s breakfast
sandwiches, hash browns, large Coke. For lunch that was more and more
you went home and had a big dinner and then you didn’t even remember
half the time you ate throughout the day.
Bill: No and it’s so easy especially as an adult to that you lose track of your
day. We’re so based on our outlook calendars these days that you just
automatically start popping things in your mouth and you really have to
take a step back and say I’m going to be the most important thing on my
outlet calendar today and say okay instead of having this with that I’m just
going to cut that in half and just take care of me because you absolutely
have to on any weight loss.
Audra: If you don’t take care of you who else will, right.
Bill: That is absolutely correct.
Audra: On your website you also say that you have to really be forgiving of
yourself. If you don’t loose it right away if you don’t loose as much it’s
okay. A lot of people forget that.
Bill: Well a lot of people forget that if they lose 10 let’s just say and they gain
back 5 they see that as a failure that’s not a failure you still kept of 5
pounds. Failure is only permanent if you let it be permanent so you just—
so if you fall and you stumble and you have a little something you’re not
supposed to just get right back up and go.
Audra: And when did you get rid of your clothes. Did you hold on to them for a
while or did you?
Bill: I did so much shopping it was ridiculous but you know I got rid of them as
soon as I shrank out of that because I didn’t want anywhere to go back. It
was always a forward journey that I was on and that’s the most important
thing.
Audra: What about time obviously you’re patient person you knew that this was
going to take some time not everybody feels that way. They want the
quick fix. How do you transform your mind to think that way?
Bill: There is no quick fix. You know you can see all the diet supplements and
all the things in the world that will get you to point B quickly as possible
but to make an effective lifestyle change this has to be a part of your life
for the rest of your life so slow down, take care of yourself in the process
and know that this is going to take time but that’s your worth it.
Audra: Do you know what? I don’t know about you guys but I’m spelling a male
Oprah here right now. I don’t know.
Bill: It would be kind of cool.
Audra: Yes you cause the vibes going on I love it.
Bill: Well thank you I appreciate that.
Audra: Congratulations I’m so happy for you and thanks for sharing yours story.
You guy can also get more information on Bill on our website
