How to Select a Computer Hardware Case.
This video will briefly address some of the advantages and disadvantages of certain case features to help you make an educated decision when selecting a case to suit your system, needs and budget.
First, you should assess what specifications the system that is to be installed in your case will have? Also, consider any special requirements that you may have for the case such as size, durability, weight, dust management, noise etcetera. Keep in mind when making this decision that the objective is to find the suitable case to meet your needs with the lowest price tag and without sacrificing any functionality or quality control.
Some specifications to consider when determining what you will need for your case are as follows, the number 5.25-inch drive bays which are usually for optical drives. Number 3.2-inch drives bay which is usually for hard drives. The primary construction material which pertains to durability and weight, the external dimensions, the overall case size, cooling also take any consideration. The Internal Space Dimensions for components including they’re not limited to the dedicated graphics card, the aftermarket CPU cooler, power supply and the motherboard form factor etcetera.
Also keep in mind other additional features such as, the overall case noise. The overall aesthetics or look of the product, if it has a removable motherboard tray that has rubberized drive mounts. It has tool less design if it incorporates a window into the side panel. It has lights of addition cable management holes or other potentially beneficial features. Please note that we usually recommend against integrated powersupplies with cases, unless they are manufactured by a reliable brand and have the rated wattage and amperage that you may need.
Once you’ve determined the basic needs of your system, then take a look at the specific anticipated heat footprint of your components. An average system usually entails something along the lines of the following. A dual-core CPU, Integrated graphics, 1-2 Hard Drives, 1-2 Optical Drives, a lower wattage power supply and will be used for web browsing, word documents, email and other basic tasks.
For such systems with some variations as to the hardware and it use we usually recommend in Micro-ATX case that at least a single 80 millimeter fan preferably two or a single 120 millimeter fan. This will save you money, space and noise while effectively housing and cooling your components. A mid-ranged PC will usually consist of the following.
A dual-core or quad-core CPU, 1-2 dedicated graphics cards, 1-3 hard drive, 1-3 Optical drives, a higher wattage power supply also it may incorporate some light overclocking or other after marketproducts and it will usualy be used for watching, making movies, playing games, multi-tasking etcetera.
Mid-ranged systems usually require more space and cooling: I recmmend using a mid-tower chasse with a recommended two or more 12 millimeter larger fans usually 3 120 millimeter or larger fans are ideal. High end and extreme systems usually consist of a quad-core CPU, 2-4 dedicated cards, 2-4 hard drives, 2-3 optical drives, and a high wattage power supply and also we usually incorporate other after market parts.
Also they will usually be used for overclocking, gaming, graphical audio video rendering, 3D modelling, heavy calculations etcetera. .High-end systems will usually work great in a properly ventilated usually larger Mid-Tower case. However, many will require a larger Full-Tower chasse in order to properly accommodate bays requirements and cooling. The 3-5 120millimeter or larger fans are ideal.
Aesthetics are important, as you will in many cases be seeing your system chasse every day. Make sure that you purchase something that appeals to you, and don’t underestimate the elegance of a basic design. There are many other more specific, aspects of a chasse to consider that I did not cover on this video.
