Dr. Lisa Masterson: And so I'm going to tell you what happens in a regular C-section. So just go ahead and follow me back here to the magical wall. And I'm going to tell you everything you may have been afraid to know. So many women are afraid of C-sections and there is nothing to be afraid of.
Basically, we're going to start from the incision part of the C-section, because what we do. Now if there is emergency C-section, we will often do a vertical line down here. That's a lot harder to heal from wearing much of a scar that you're going to be left with, so, but the thing is we can get the baby out and under 5 minutes with the scar like that. So that's for emergencies.
Alright. Now, what we do when it's all planed and we have time is we do two finger press above the pubic symphysis which is the hard pubic bone which you can feel and that's actually right there. So I'm going to show you right where that is and we do that. So two finger press above the symphysis pubis and it's only 6 centimeters long and that's 3 centimeters on each side.
So it's really only that big in the bikini line, so you really shouldn't see it at all. So we making an incision down there and with the magic of video here you're going to see what happens. We make an incision on the uterus and once we make that incision on the uterus we open up the amniotic sac and this baby is in the Breech Position right here.
And what you don't see is an assistant, because a C-section is a two person surgery. Is that here guiding the bottom down and the other doctor or surgeon is actually - because it's in the breech, taking the feet, then the hand and then will gently deliver the head. And so then baby is out and then what happens is we have to separate baby from mom.
So what we do, this is the Umbilical Cord that you see we clamp it on either side, because you have to cut off the blood flow from the mom and cut off the blood flow to the baby and then we cut right in the middle of the Umbilical Cord you're going to see that happen right here. So make a cut that separates mom from baby and now baby can be put next to mom.
And this is a placenta, we remove that we close everything up and voila, you're all back to normal. How simple is that? You just wonder why more women don't go ahead and guess that. So let's go and sit back down here answer more of your questions. So see, it's a very simple surgery with everything back together and the end. You can have stitches or staples like Julia had in that other one.
