We’ve all heard about the swine flu outbreak, which started about last March, which has everybody scared, the good news is that the virulence of this virus is not what we have seen in previous epidemics. So there have been some deaths, but not the numbers that we have seen in previous pandemics and partly that may be related to the fact that the population is now healthier.
There are also things that you can do to protect yourself and your family – a very easy fix is Vitamin D. There are studies to show that Vitamin D supplementation will prevent you from getting the flu and decreasing your risk of spreading it.
Secondly, if you do get the flu, there’s an anti-viral agent called Tamiflu that you can take, but it must be taken within 24 hours of the symptoms, which include a high fever, arthralgias and myalgias. And the third thing you could do is to prevent your family from getting it is make sure you are wiping down all surfaces in the house with a Lysol-type solution, door knobs, computer tops, desktops and practicing, you know, good oral hygiene.
