The techpaddles are Early Vertical Forearm training device and you use them in conjunction with your pull-buoys, your kick-boards and I also enjoy this FINIS snorkel because you can keep your face in the water and examine.
It's vital that you, as a swimmer or as a coach, be able to analyze your stroke. If you do these exercises with these techpaddles too fast, they are not going to work. These aren't hand paddles. You can't just put them on and start swimming like you would with some hand paddles. This is a left side, this is the right side. Put your hands in - the new velcro straps are kind of neat because it's very convenient to get them on tight. Don't let your swimmers open their hands. That would be cheating. The whole reason I invented these, in order to make sure that you loose the area of the hand and I took the area of the hand and moved it down to forearms, so kind of push it against the forearm so you can get a feel for the water. This leading edge also helps you accelerate the Early Vertical Forearm position.
Now, I am going to show you a couple of drills. The first one I'd like to show you is a breaststroke drill, that you can do standing up; you can do in a shallow end of the pool. If you don't have the shallow end, I will show you another one.
The first one is a breaststroke drill where you go apart, and because I am standing up. When I am doing this I am keeping my hands down in this position with a 45 degree pinch with the hands to show you that this 45 degrees is the propulsive part of the sculling motion. So in extension out, Early Vertical Forearm and that means early and then at a sculling end and a recovery. What you do it you have to do this slowly, have them watch you, have them watch and have them to be able to dictate and analyze your stroke and tell you if they are doing it right.
Now I am going to get in the water right now and show you some swimming drills that are breaststroke and butterfly related. I make sure that the kids time themselves for 25 pulls, 50 pulls, 100 pulls, 200 pulls with these all off after they have analyze their strokes with them on.
So what I am saying is, they are going to work for maybe just a 50 with these, and this is the drill that they do for breaststroke. You take your pull- buoy and I am going to come in to show you how this works. Very slow and I am not exaggerating the speed. Okay, it's a very slow. Watch. I'll do it again. This is breaststroke and I am showing the -- I am analyzing them and the only reason I can analyze the stroke is because I am going very fast. I need to do it slow, very slow.
