What about the use of credit cards?

David Marotta: We recommend that you don’t use credit unless both parties agree. So if your finances are fine and the credit cards are rolling along fine and you’re paying them off each month and you’re staying within your budget and you both agree that credit cards are at convenience, that’s good.

But the easy use of credit cards is what’s got most families who are in financial trouble and trouble. And so if one party says we’re not going to use credit for clothing purchases or for eating out then that should be honored by both parties. Most credit cards are in both parties’ names, its going to end up affecting both parties credit.

So you may find that credit cards are okay for grocery purchases or paying certain bills that are in their monthly bills online but if one party disagrees to credit, we recommend not using credit at all.
