Raena Morgan: Hello, I'm visiting with Frank Murray. He is the author of the "Health Benefits Derived from Sweet Orange", among many books. And, we're talking about bioflavonoids, particularly diosmin?
Frank Murray: Yes.
Raena Morgan: What is diosmin?
Frank Murray: It's a bioflavonoid again, as we say, its in fruits and some vegetables. And, it's in the Sweet Orange along with hesperidin another bioflavonoid. It dilates the blood vessels allowing more blood to come through.
Raena Morgan: Well, in your book you say there's a long list of ailments that it treats.
Frank Murray: Oh, it's incredible.
Raena Morgan: Could you give us an account of those?
Frank Murray: Varicose veins, which are so common, unfortunately among women, and men do have it, women are susceptible. The spider veins, those blue veins that you see on legs, hemorrhoids, leg ulcers, diabetic complications there's a long list of efficacy for this wonderful bioflavonoid.
Raena Morgan: Which comes from the Sweet Orange?
Frank Murray: Yes, Sweet Orange has 2 bioflavonoids, diosmin and hesperidin. As I say, they're wonderful for alleviating these problems, circulatory problems such as varicose veins.
Raena Morgan: How long ago was this discovered?
Raena Morgan: In the 20s, around 1927, actually. And, it's interesting that at the same time Dr. Szent-Gyorgyi was investigating vitamin C. He investigated from paprika and he won the Nobel Prize later for discovering vitamin C.
Raena Morgan: Okay. Well, thank you very much Frank, we'll come and visit again.
