Lady Walker: My name is Lady Walker. I am from Jackson, Mississippi. How does allergy season affect Asthma sufferers?
James Li: Well Lady, many people do find that the asthma symptoms changed with the seasons. Most commonly perhaps individuals, allergic to plant pollen find that spring time, summer time, or fall is worse for their asthma, and that corresponds to the tree pollen, grass pollen, and weed pollen seasons.
In addition, individuals can be sensitive to dust mites, and dust mites are present all year around, but tend to be in higher concentrations in the summer in some areas, although, in the winter when the doors and windows are closed, a person may have increased dust mite exposure in the winter.
The last thing to keep in mind is that in the winter time the cold air can trigger asthma, and it's also cold and flu season. We know that catching a cold or virus can trigger an asthma attack. So Asthma does change with the seasons, but it's different for individuals persons.
