If you don’t know what the windows registry is, one of the best explanations that I've found is from Wikipedia. I'm using registry RegCure software to view this page and you can download that’s for free. But this basically just says the windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options the Microsoft operating systems and it contains information and settings for all hardware system software and any other software you will install.
Now, the reason that windows has a registry is well as to tidy up the perfusion of whole program INI files that have previously being use to install configuration settings for windows programs. So basically, all these INI files, you still find them bundled with your applications. But the registry reduces the need for a lot of them so it cuts down on the number of settings files that applications need. So, the registry is like a store which stores all information on your applications plus system information.
If you go down this page, Wikipedia shows you the structure of the registry using keys and values and all the different sub-categories I guess of the registry and manual editing of the registry. If you want and I had to quickly do it, go to start menu run and then when this run command comes up, you type RegEdit. Press Okay on that and this screen pops out. Now, this is how to manually edit the registry through windows. So, everything—all the application settings you can find in here. But there's one thing you don’t want to do is just that manually deleting and changing things in here because you will get problems. So, if you want to find that more about the windows registry, you can download this registry RegCure software. You can get that from www.mikescomputertips.com/registrycleanup.
