Molly: Hello everyone, I'm Molly Wood and welcome to the Cnet Mailbag, the show where we read your emails, respond to your feedback, and try to answer your questions about the stuff we do here at Cnet. And this week is the last show of the year. So please hold your sticker request, your hater mail, and you incomprehensible ranting for after the holidays. Don’t worry, I’ll read them all.
Alright let's get to your email. Mateo4M says, as a daily user of cnettv I have to express my disappointment with the changing of the HD button with 4 levels of quality. Worst of all now I have to full screen the video before I get the option to go full HD. If I go back to normal view to skip, or select the next video my video quality gets bumped down to ‘high’ quality instead of HD quality, who thought of this? I would like HD quality all the time and constantly switching back and forth is annoying.
Mateo, you are one of many to write in with the same complaint. It turns out that yes, true HD mode is only available in full screen. That’s why it’s always grayed out. But our Cnet product manager said the HD designation actually refers to dimension and not resolution. So in a regular player, you can't tell the difference between HD and high anyway. And HD might even look worse because the video is being scaled down on the flat. And then were not going to pay for extra bandwidth to deliver you an HD stream that doesn’t look any better than the other one. So that’s all really reasonable but I did suggest that they just maybe change the presentation a little bit so that you don’t think you're missing out on all the HD goodness which is apparently what you all think. So they're working on that. Hang in there.
Moving on, Greg Port says, I just saw this week’s Mailbag and was pleased when Molly talked about the new Android feature Scan and Shop. When going to Market I could not find it unfortunately. Please let me know if this is my error or if they have not rolled it out as of yet. Yes, that is the last time I promote something before it launches. They have not rolled it out as of yet. Hopefully it will come out soon. And for those of you who has to know, there's not an iPhone version. I don’t know why. I'm sure it will happen.
Next up, James from Wisconsin writes in about a recent car tech video. Wow, that Mazdaspeed 3 has an amazing interior! It almost looks like the interior of a Lincoln MKT! Wait a second, it is. Did anyone else notice this on the review of the Mazda? No, they did not, James. You win the prize for the most ego live viewer or the week. And this is how long that interior shop was up.
Male: And a suspension that just plane sticks.
Molly: Good eye dude. Plus you identified the Lincoln? Nice. That’s fixed now.
And now on to some holiday cheer email. Joey says, I just watched the new episode of “Apple Byte”, and I just wanted to say that I think Brian Tang makes a better T-Pain than T-Pain himself. That whole studio clip was hysterical. I might not own a Mac or an iPhone anymore but Brian Tang is awesome and so are you Molly! Oh nice, that was a classic Apple Byte, it’s true. Lots of love from Brian on that one.
Next up, Josh writes, I would like to say how much of a joy it is watching Natali on Loaded. She is the perfect host and always has a smile on her face. Thank you Natali, smiley face. What a sweet email. But come on, we can do holiday cheer without some coal and a stocking. Here are a couple of Grinch emails.
MV11981 says, please get rid of Molly Wood. She’s not funny, hot, or worth the mandatory BestBuy ads just to get to the news! What is she, the Cnet founder’s niece or something? Nepotism? Ugh, blah.
NGD66 says, I love everything about you but because of those stupid best buy commercials, I'm going to take a break. There are absolutely stupid. How many times have I told you guys, just check Facebook while the ads are on.
And finally, my favorite crazy mail of the week. Anonymous writes, can you put a place where you can place questions unanimously without having to send an email? I don’t think that I know what you mean like maybe like a box? I'm confused.
And that’s it for this week’s show everyone. And it is the last regular show of the year. There will be a special end of your Mailbag coming next week that you do not want to miss. Other than that, I will see you all in 2010. Have a great holiday season and thank you for watching.
