When I was 14 I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and I would like to know how the disease progresses over time. Dr. Mary Wasko: Well, Kenny as you probably know juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is one of the more common forms of arthritis that affects young people. JRA or juvenile rheumatoid arthritis actually can develop in three different forms and depending upon which one you have in particular your prognosis would depend on upon that specific type. For you Kenny, probably your best course would be to ask your rheumatologist which specific type you have. And in general, those children who develop posy articular JRA or arthritis affecting only four joints or fewer tend to have a very good prognosis and that during adulthood, they have no arthritis symptoms and actually carry on a normal adult life.
