Sue Brennan: When we speak about how much vitamin C do we need, it’s kind of interesting to
look at what the recommended dietary amount is, which is somewhere between
60 and 90 milligrams, depending on what source you look at, and that how much
you can actually take. There’s a real broad range, like up to 10 grams a day in
some of those high dose studies. You need 50 milligrams a day. But for optimal
health, maybe we need to be more between 100 and 250 milligrams a day. Some
people may need up to 1000, if they’re, say, fighting cancer or long-term stress,
something that’s depleting you faster than normal.
