How Not to Fall for Fake Fashion Online
Audra: Welcome back everybody. It’s time for hot topics. And if the reason buzz on the internet is true, the fashion world really is about to be rocked in a way that it might not even be ready for it and it really gives new meaning to the word luxury.
A former spice girl was reportedly personally asked to work on a project by the ruler of Dubai. He asked her to help design a luxury, fashion themed hotel for reported multi-million dollar fee. I would love to know what you think about this. Pamela Peckerman is here. She’s our handbag expert. And you talk about all things fashion. So I really want to know what you think about this. Apparently, Victoria and David Beckham were vacationing in the Gulf last year.
Pamela: I think it’s a great match.
Audra: And you might approach by them—I do too.
Pamela: I mean I was just thinking of all the celebrities. When you go to hotel, of all the things you wanted to be, you wanted to be Posh. And who knows Posh Style more than Victoria?
Audra: She’s got ridiculous styles.
Pamela: Her closet is worth half a million dollars like the construction of the closet not the contents.
Audra: The construction of it?
Pamela: So, I think that she would do really good job. I feel like if she was actually involved even just a fraction of the time, that hotel will be flawless.
Audra: Well, we’re still crossing our fingers and hoping that she’s going to say yes and that this is all true to it because apparently, she’s very hands on and really wants to spend a lot of time on it if this is something that she commits to but the hotel would be a fashion-themed to buy those two hand in hand.
Pamela: Sign me up. I just want a penthouse. I’m there.
Audra: Right. And also on top of that, it’s also being developed with the help of top designer, Karl Lagerfeld too. So apparently, there’ll be many people.
Pamela: Could it be a better match. I mean he has his handsome photography fashion every band you can think of. I think it will be phenomenal.
Audra: He’s going to help with everything from the room design, the wardrobes. I can’t think of anybody else that I would want to—I would go the hotel.
Pamela: He matched the themed-rooms. I want to go.
Audra: High-heeled rooms? Now, also in terms of fashion and we were talking about handbags earlier in the show and a big deal right now is how to spot an impostor when it comes to buying especially Louis Vuitton, Chanel bags. Some people, it’s pretty obvious.
Pamela: But a lot of people argued online and I think the big thing about the online is that, a lot of brands just don’t allow themselves to be sold online. So if you see Chanel, unless it’s on Ebay and it’s a reputable dealer, you really sort of have to question mark plus pricing. If it’s $200.00 and it should be $3,000.00, let’s just do the math here people.
Audra: What about pictures too, because they always say that if there’s a snap photo that’s being shown that that’s a giveaway right there.
Pamela: If you’re on eBay or another sort of auction site, you want to make sure that it’s the person’s real pictures because if they are upholding form a runway show, you want to question like, “Why don’t you want to show me the real merchandise?” So, make sure that it’s something that they actually took themselves.
Audra And also date codes. We know that especially at Louis Vuitton bags, how do you know? If you‘re buying a bag, you have no idea how to match up the date codes, where you go, how do you find out if it’s real or not based on the codes that are on the bag?
Pamela: You can go to reference store. Call them up and they will let you know like depending on what the year the bag was made. It was in made in France. It was made in United States. So, you want to check that. But, I think the easiest thing for anybody to do is pricing. If it’s too good to be true and your mom’s not the one who is selling it to you, it’s probably too good to be true.
Audra: But, going back to the codes though, what the counterfeit start catching on to this, don’t they have a way of trying to match it up so how do you really—?
Pamela: Yes, they do. You have to go by the price. I mean, honestly the one thing that anybody should know is value. If it’s fifty, hundred dollars and you see it for $900.00, maybe something and they have the pictures to prove it their own pictures, inserted like start going down the list, but it’s just too good to be true.
Audra: And you would know definitely. Lucky Magazine did an article on this too and they also said you can ask an expert by posting pictures of pieces at forum.purseblog.com. In house pro’s will give you advice and tell you if it’s real or not too.
Pamela: Absolutely.
Audra: Thank you so much, Pam, good to have you back, and we’ll be back after this.
