Hi I’m Sarah, welcome to the first Make Great Stuff How to video.
Today’s video is how to correctly open and close a jump ring. All you need to get started are two pairs of jewelry pliers and some jump rings. Grab the first pair of pliers and grasp the jump ring so that the slit is parallel with the plier’s jaws.
This is your anchor hand and it doesn’t move. To grab the second set of pliers, grasp the jumping firmly, and bend your wrist towards you a quarter turn to open a jump ring and a quarter turn back to close it.
It might feel easier or more natural at first to bend the both hands at once to open and close your jump rings. The problem with doing it this way is that it is towards the pelvic circle of your jump ring and the more that happens the more likely it is that your beaded project will break.
Let’s review the correct method. Grab a pair of pliers and grasp the jump rings so that the slit is parallel with the plier’s jaws. This is your anchor hand and it doesn’t move. Your other hand is your rotating hand and you grasp a jump ring firmly bend your wrist toward you a quarter turn to open and a quarter turn back to close it again and that’s it
