How Technology Helps Great River Fishing Adventures
Mike Agerbo: Well, the fishing floats your boat. We’re going to show you how a small business located in beautiful Chilliwack, British Colombia called Great River Fishing Adventures solved their problems staying in constant contact with their business concerns no matter where their troubles took them.
Dean Werk: My name is Dean Werk and I’m the president of Great River Fishing Adventures here in Chilliwack, British Colombia. Great River Fishing Adventures brings people from all over the world here to beautiful British Colombia to experience the great fishing resource that we have here in the Fraser Valley and throughout British Colombia.
We fish for everything. We fish for salmon, and sturgeon. We have fly anglers that come from all over the world just here to single hand and double hand fly catch. We take everybody out from novices to professionals. I love my fish.
As a small business I consider myself an entrepreneur and a very driven one. We have an awful lot of business to deal within a day. We look to growing our business and adding more and more staff to hopefully take this thing from over $1 million a year company and grow within to a company that probably exceeds five or ten million dollars a year.
The only in access for 20 years now we’ve been with Telus both with the internet service and all the offices and thing as well as it’s been great. We rely on the technology to help us and we continually we’re getting e-mails from the office and directly from a lot of our costumers.
And you know, minute by minute to get that technology to boast it and send it and have it forwarded to us. On many occasions I’ve been able to get a whole of our costumers back to them immediately whether it be on BBM because I have lots of our costumers that are on BBM as well with the Blackberries or back on the voicemails right away with the quick email or message to them and it results in money made.
Something that was a real concern for us over the years was always having to phone back and retrieved all your messages. We ended up with the visual voice mail that Telus developed and it is now within our phones and we use this service all the time to take away a few minutes and a half to go through all your voice mails all the time. We no longer have to do this, so we look at the message. We get to read the message right on our Blackberries and it works amazingly well and we can direct those calls immediately back to the people that need to be in touch with.
It’s very important for us to always be on the internet. The bottom line is for us we rely on the internet being enough. That’s how we do an awful lot of business and without it being up we’re losing money, so over the years we have had very, very few times that our internet service has ever gone down and now that we are here in the industry today. The internet being as good as it has been with Telus has really helped to grow our business over the years and that’s what we’ve look for. It’s a reliable great service.
And to simplify things in the office for us when we’re paying bills and we’re doing things Telus has really helped us along with bundling packages for us so that we have all of our phones all bundled in with the internet as well, so we really we get one bill and it has been very easy for our office staff now we just pay the bills, it’s a one-stop shop.
We hope to grow these things so that we get an increase of possibly 5000 or 6000 guests in a year. With Telus’ help we will be able to continue to grow in a strong way.
