Oh, it is definitely not my night tonight. Tomorrow morning I have to go get 10 cavities fixed. Nothing is hurting me or anything but, I guess I have not been as good to my teeth as I thought. I am definitely not flossing everyday. I am using the ultrasonic tooth brush after using the Sonicare but apparently I am just not being that careful and you might remember the review that we did of what at least I did. You did not do a review of my toothbrush with Dr. Birch, he is back and he has got a Top 5 Lists and he said this to me after I had about 10 or so cavities that I needed to get fixed. I am not going to explain the visit. I do not think I can handle that, moreover, I am going to be Novacained and I am also taking a couple of prescribed slow-down pills. I don’t know what they are. The doctor said, “Here take this, you will feel better” good enough for me.
1. Use a sharp toothbrush and use it well. Now that is a good tip. The sharpness of the nylon bristles matter much more than gimmick and technique is important. Use the modified BAS technique and a soft brush. What matters again is newness of the bristles and the to the stiffness of them. Most brushes are dull after three months. Wash it in the dishwasher a couple of times, a month to disinfect it or after you have a cold. I tried to at least rinse my toothbrush under a hot water once a week, if not more than that but certainly throwing it in the dishwasher is a good dip to keep in mind.
2. Lube your floss. I suppose that is assuming that you are flossing. Tie your floss in four to five inch loop, working your way around the loop. For most people it is easier than wrapping around the fingers. This trick works great for kids and the elderly and pretty much everyone else. Floss aids like the Reach are excellent too. I know it is simple but it is just, it is not as easy as going with a toothbrush.
3. Use Fluoridated toothpaste. The concentration of fluoride in toothpaste is nominal. It takes a certain concentration on the surfaces of the teeth to kill bacteria and strengthen teeth. Yes, Crest is the only proven anti-cavity toothpaste because they have the study that proved it but all other brands with the same concentration works just as well. In areas where the water is fluoridated, it does not matter as much. But if you are drinking bottled water it does. The bottom water trend in many cities has cavity rates going up. I don’t want to go in to the whole debate on whether fluoridated water is a good or a bad thing. I would air on the side that it is a bad thing but I will underscore the idea of using good toothpaste. I am using the, it is called the Microsoft 1 care and I always want to call this Crest toothpaste one care. And it is not one care. It is like a total solution. It has everything in it. I happen to enjoy it a lot and I guess I am kind of picky with my toothpaste.
4. Choose Xylitol gum. Xylitol sugar slows bacterial acid production and stimulates salivary flow. Spit has good stuff in it for your teeth, washing them and killing bacteria. Chew trident with Xylitol or spray after fructose sodas, chocolates or other sweets to decrease acid levels in your mouth. So I guess I have got to keep some more gum around here. As long as this has Xylitol.
5. Brush or scrape your tongue. Perhaps the most neglected area of you mouth after brushing and flossing the slimy fong on your tongue, it says it is fong. I don’t know if it is a dental term, a fong, I got fong on my tongue. Tongue cleaners are everywhere; yes they gag but do the best you can. It will freshen breath and keep your mouth healthy. I like using for a mouthwash. I use Act, which I realized is not everything in a mouthwash but it tastes good, it does not burn my mouth and I have done that. Apparently though, I think what is hurting me the most with my oral health is not chewing or brushing after, number one: regularly, and number two: especially after eating starchy foods or like drinking carbonated drinks, I mean like soda water, just plain old club soda can damage teeth. The starchy foods, the acids sit on your teeth for an extended period of time especially if we don’t brush or do something after wards like chew gum, so any of the starchy foods that I have had like potatoes. That is getting me in just as much trouble. How do you feel about tongue scraping? It is just not a big scraper so much, maybe I will have to. I usually rely on the whole mouthwash thing to get anything that is in my mouth kind of out of it. Or I just drink coffee and that kills just about everything.
I hope these nuggets help a bit Chris. It sounds like you will be visiting the dentist a bit. You have got to see it twice a year. It has been two years since I had last seen a dentist. As I have said before. I take top five tips of any kind whether it is related to health or technology, maybe you know of a really cool super tacky mouth health product. I should be looking at it. It may keep me from having that many cavities next time I go to the dentist in six months. E-mail me. My e-mail address is Cris.Pirillo.com and if I am not still logy after the procedures. That will take about an hour, so the dentist has a (weee), you know it would not be so bad if they could just change that sound. You know maybe if instead of the drill, they play John Tesh, no, that would probably hurt more. Anyway if you want to join us for a chat, if I am feeling up to it, even if I am not feeling up to it, there are going to be people over here. There are about 300 or so people chatting right now, of course it does not look that way because we have got a moderator while I record the videos but if you want to talk technology or just about anything, you want to join our community. You are kind of already part of it by watching this. Let me know how many cavities you have had in recent months. Maybe I would not feel so bad. I wish I could trade places with you tomorrow. That is not going to be fun. Anyway, the chat room will be open, no matter what, 24 hours a day, seven days a week at live.pirillo.com. will “E” you later.
