Veronica: Huge classes of bigger work load and more responsibility, everything gets bigger in college, even your waist line if you are not careful.
Hi, I am Veronica with watchmojo.com and today we are looking at ways to avoid the dreaded freshman 15. What is the freshman 15?
Adrienne: The dreaded freshman 15, freshman 15 comes from the weight gain that many students experience when they fist begin college. They no longer having their parents do their grocery shopping and prepare their meals and they are doing their own grocery shopping and may be they are not quite sure on what to buy and a few of them make some poor choices.
Veronica: Stress is something that every college student experiences and it's another factor for weight gain, are there any tips to helping people to cope with the stress?
Adrienne: Actually exercise really is the fantastic way to deal with stress. Getting enough sleep is another good way to deal with stress. Giving yourself enough time to get your work done at a pace that is a little healthier, may be not as stressful as trying to get everything done at the last minute. Cramming is certainly a good way to increase your stress.
Veronica: Well, you mentioned exercise, besides going to the gym, what other options do you see in the entire wall there on campus?
Adrienne: I think if you want to make exercise as more of a priority in your life, it's always possible to include it because there are a lot things that you can do, in your home, the things that you can do in your dorm room, the things you can do right around campus. Now a day, a lot of video games councils give you a good outlook for getting some physical activity, so I think there is always a way to fit it in.
Veronica: Do you think you can show some moves and exercises that we can do dorm room to start with?
Adrienne: Absolutely, there is lot you can do in the dorm room. So as you can see, I am doing these exercises outside but really I hope you taking up a lot of space so you can do it in any area you have available to you.
The first exercise we are going to start with are some exercises that you are already familiar with, crunches. Thing to remember about crunches, is you don't have to come all the way up and just relax your neck and let your abs do all the work.
The next exercise we are going to do is called the tricep dip. If you are in your dorm room, you can use your bed or a chair but make sure it's a heavy chair because you don't want it falling over on you.
It's a bright sunny day, so I don't need my umbrella for keeping me protected from the rain but I can use it to do some bicep curls. You want any 3-5 pound umbrella to start with and you can do curl sitting on the edge of your bed or on the chair.
Another good exercise you can do that can help you from getting sore wrist from all that writing and typing you're going have to do, it's called the wrist curl and you can do it in two ways.
Remember weight gain doesn't happen over night, you get a lot of certain hands that it's coming on. So if you're closer getting too tight or you find you're running out of energy and might be time to either just to diet or add some exercise to your program.
