With low budgets but with high need for a break, we’re going to transport Anthony Carboni’s space into a Tiki theme destination for a staycation.
Anthony Carboni: I’m just mostly going to watch. You know, I’m bad at this stuff.
Meg Allan Cole: You will not help.
Anthony Carboni: It’s not good.
Meg Allan Cole: Not going to help.
To make your Tiki bar you will need an old dresser or shelf to create the bar structure, a bamboo screen, four 4 feet tall 2 x 1 inch pieces of wood, a drill and screws, grass skirts, a wire cutter, galvanized wire and 2 Hawaiian lace.
First, on one side of the dresser, measure down 1 foot for the first piece of wood and 6 inches down for the second piece of wood, the one that you measured down 1 foot should be towards the back of the dresser which is not the front of your Tiki bar. Make marks on your wood where it’ll be screwed in. There will be two screws for each piece of wood. Pre-drill your holes with the drill bit. Now screw the wood pieces into one side of the dresser then repeat on the other side. Once all 4 pieces of wood are securely attach, you’re going to attach the bamboo on the front of the Tiki bar. Stretch the bamboo along the front and cut off any excess. Take your drill and drill a hole 2 inches down from the top and 2 inches out from the side. Then drill another hole 2 inches out from the bottom, repeat on the other side. Drill one last hole in the center of the front. Pre-cut 5 pieces of galvanized wire that measure 5 inches long. Tie a piece of wire through each hole and through the end of the bamboo screen to secure it to the shelf.
Now cut out a piece of the remaining bamboo that measure 2 inches longer than the top of your dresser. Drill a hole 2 inches down on each 2 by 1 and attach the bamboo to the top, leaving the extra 2 inches of bamboo to hang down in front. Take one of the grass skirts secure it to the top of the bamboo with your wire depending on how long the bamboo pieces. You might want to use 2 grass skirts and have them overlap. Once your skirt is even at the top, cut the grass to the length you wanted on tear of the Tiki bar. Adorn with lace or shells and be sure to add your Tiki bar sign to finish off the tropical beach themed Tiki bar.
Anthony Carboni: Tiki time!
Meg Allan Cole: Tiki time!
Anthony Carboni: That was so lame.
Meg Allan Cole: Have a home d?cor dilemma? We’ll help you solve it on D?cor it Yourself new every Wednesday right here on Threadbanger.
Meg Allan Cole: Welcome back!
Anthony Carboni: What’s a Tiki bar without any drinks in it?
Meg Allan Cole: I don’t know. What?
Anthony Carboni: It’s not like a knock-knock joke or something and what is a Tiki bar without any drinks at it?
Meg Allan Cole: A failure.
Anthony Carboni: For quick and easy Tiki cocktail, try a Blue Hawaiian. It’s 1 ounce of light Rhum, 1 ounce of Blue Curacao, 2 ounces of pineapple juice, 2 ounces of coconut juice, a pineapple slice and garnished with a cherry. Some other classic Tiki favorites are the Zombie, the Maitai and the Scorpion. For virgin options try Pi?a Colada and for all the drink recipes check out the blog on threadbanger.com.
