David: Hi, I am David Epstein welcome to Growing Wisdom and today I am here with Lee Thomas we were going to talk about Poinsettias beautiful plants for the holidays. Some people say Poinsettia, poinsettiara you say does not matter just enjoy the plant right?
Lee: As with all plant, names just say it.
David: Okay, tell me a little bit about the origin of the plant. Where this from where they go grow wild?
Lee: South American plant and move from Mexico move to this country around the return of the century. Started in California and kind of God adopted as the Christmas Plant.
David: How did you take care of it, how you make sure that you can keep it alive through the holidays and maybe in beyond?
Lee: They do not like to changes in temperatures especially when it intensity cold. We insist on putting sleeves on before the customer takes into the car. Do not leave into the car too long? Put them in the house un-sleeve them right away you can get bruising on the bracks these are not actually a flowers these are bracks. These are colorful leaves that surround the flowers the little knobs inside there those are the actual flower.
If you over water it for many it will die within three days touched it probably every three days to see how the water is if it is dump walk away. If it start to look a little limp water it otherwise wait until it literally feels dry and then you water it. As long as it is relatively cool and dry they will get to the season. Keep there looks do not let them touch icy cold window.
You can put them some place with not indirect light because it down with what they going to do. They were just going to rest peacefully until the season over. If you keep them to the summer they turn into fairly large fairly unattractive width.
David: Now, tell me some about the colors and varieties that we have this year?
Lee: I think the red as a color is always the most popular we find out again this year. Their is a two or three differentiate of pink there are usually one or two different varieties of white. This one as know as either jingle bells or white glitter always really popular difficult to combines not everyone grows because it is a smaller plants strawberries and cream cue cute pink and yellow one.
Hanging basket is always popular for the turtle holiday decorating look and three poinsettias are very popular this year.
