Male: What kind of mentality? What kind of encouragement should a coach give a pitcher now? You are 10, you are 11, and you are 12, this may be your first year, this may be your second year. Taking in consideration, we can only use the gym two days a week. Here is a kid, he walk in 10 kids, five kids. He hit a couple of batters. What kind of mentality should pitcher have and what kind of encouragement should the coach give the pitcher?
Male: Well, at all times, every little league youth coach has to be positive and has to offer positive reinforcement, comments on every phase of the game. Whether he would be a pitcher, whether he would be a first baseman, we have to really, really focus in on the positives of the game. Now, once again, we will leave it to the judgment of the coach to determine if the player is struggling, if the player is not performing properly or his mechanics are not there today.
This game is very temperamental as easy as it is on that is as easy the player’s off. So therefore, he needs to show good judgment in determining that, “Hey, my pitcher does not have it today.” So, we are going to take him out, we are going to tell him, “Hey, thank you for trying, you did a great job, there is always another time, we will get him next time.” But once again, you do not want to leave him in there or after he has walk two or three players, or if he is a batter or two and he is really loosing it, you need to take time out.
