This is our wrist drill. The purpose of this drill is to help strengthen the arm of each little league player. What we do in this drill is we have each player paired off and once again, each coach can do this anytime, any place, and any ball play. You can take this drill and use it at home with a brother or into a wall, and it just emphasizes through gripping the ball properly and releasing the ball with just the use of his wrist.
We have him place his arm in an L-shape. This way, we restrict shoulder movement. We have him hold his wrist to give it support and restrict the movement of the entire arm. And on command, he flips the ball with just the use of his wrist to his partner. Go ahead flip it back.
Now, the coach instructs this drill will make sure that the arm does not come back and that he just snaps at the wrist. As you will see most of the time, he may not even reach his partner, but the idea is to strengthen the wrist and snap the ball. Very good! Do it again, do not bring your arm back. Lock your wrist L-shape; there you go. Very good!
As the player matures and develops, and obviously gets bigger and stronger, we then can increase the distance to where he is throwing with just his wrist. We can move his partner back two to three feet and really emphasize the snapping of the wrist. Coaches once again, make sure that he has a proper grip of the baseball. The smaller the player uses his entire hand to grip the baseball.
