Your YouTube help source, creating a custom video player
Part 1: Why create a custom video player?
Okay, so here we are at the Pixel Heads Network YouTube Homepage. And we are gong to create today a custom video player. And the reason that you want to create a custom video player, is because custom video players are lot more flexible than the trailer video player that you can embed for a particular video.
For example you can choose from different layouts and schemes and you can also add videos, favorites or playlist to your custom video player. And also any changes that you make to the custom player will also be updated automatically, where it is embedded. So for example, if I change the color o f my costume video player and I have this video embedded in a thousand different web pages. All of those web pages will automatically inherit those new changes, and it will reflect them on that site.
So, custom web players are so very powerful.
Part 2: Creating the Custom Video Player
Okay, so let us create a custom video player. First you need you log in to your YouTube account, and once you are there, go to account more, then which one you want to do is, scroll down to where my videos are, click on custom video players. Once you go to your page, you will see a message that says you have not created any custom players yet. Just click on the create custom player and then you will be taken to this page.
It will give you can your player a name, so we are going ahead and give our player a name, say Matt 411. Our description is going to be, actually it will say, a show for Mac lovers.
Now, what is important about the name and the description, is it really shows nowhere except on your account when you are managing all these custom players. It would be nice if they would show somewhere here, so it would be a pop-up that shows the name, but it does not. Right now, as far as I know from YouTube, it only shows it on your admin screen when you are managing your custom players.
As you make changes, this will update as well. So what I am going to do is, under theme, you can select different colors. So you can click on any colors that you want. I will just leave it as gray, and then they have two types of players. They have the stand alone player, or player that shows the playlist on the right. I always like this one, it look fancier. I will click on that and then you can see what it looks like.
For example if I change that colors, it will adjust. I will go ahead and do that. Then under content, you can select all the videos from your my Videos and really it is not all your videos, it is the latest 20 videos. You can select My Favorites, if you have any. And from your playlist, you can select the playlist that you want. Since we are doing one for Mac411, we will go ahead and select the Mac411 Playlist. We will click on the select button and now the content has been selected for this player.
The next step and final step is actually to generate the code. And this will give you the code that you need to embed on your webpage. So go ahead and click on generate code and then it refreshes the page. If you go down to the bottom, you will see your embedded code. And this is the code that you actually copy and paste into a webpage.
