Hey man, I love your vids. Very informative, good variation. Hell, I do most of my stuff on a computer (as opposed to using vinyl) and I've found some of your instructions (remixing, looping, etc) useful. Good on ya. Also, the word you're looking for (the space in-between the beats) is "syncopation&qu ot;. One of my favorite words of all time.

How To DJ: A Look at the Breakbeat

All right folks! In this figure we can be looking at Stalin Musical called breakbeat. Quite a few people have mentioned that they would like to get into breakbeat and what is it. Breakbeat is quite similar to the likes of drum and base. It is not like has at all because ankhs is a full form bang, bang, bang! One of the original DJ’s who loves breakbeat and who use to mix quite a lot of that. I am sure it still does. Is the guy by the name of Norman Cook, Fatboy Slim was in beat since national in House Music, the fat guy right. Now what can we say about breakbeat like you said, very similar to drum and base lots of percussion, lots of beefy sounds going on. More emphasis on the whole beat bum, cha, tadum, dum, cha [musical] as you opposed to just bam, bam, bam, bam. In other words house music when you think about it, house is not steady base kick bang, bang, bang. Nothing really much in between but with breakbeat there is a lot more in between. The beat has been chopped up to emphasize in the middle of the base beat as opposed to just that bang, bang, bang. A lot of people actually think that break beat started midst of the 90’s. But actually I have got a record here to prove you all wrong because this record is from 1989 by Silver Bullet this one is Tam Tam Records and this is called 20 Seconds to Comply. [music playing] Okay that was 20 Seconds to Comply by Silver Bullet now what we would do now is we are going to move on to the mid 90’s. Now there was a tune that was actually used in an advert. I think it was 96 or 97 and it is by Leftfield and it is entitled Phat Planet. I do not know how these actually ten inches but this is believe so we got the right side. I am not sure is one hell of a tune and I believe it was used on Guinness advert okay check it out.
