Patrick Johnson here, this video is dedicated to all the people who are having problems with the arms on their vinyl turntable. So, what we are going to do? We are going to look at what is here. It is an original technique SO1200 turntable. First of all the parts, this area here is you cut reach out for the star that will be and I am going to show you, different cutting off. This is the actual arm. This is the arm wrist. This is the lever that will pick up the arm and drop the arm. This part here is the area that will hold the turn on into the turntable itself. And this is the counter weight.
Now if you bought a new turntable or let us say but when I say when you bought a new one but you do not have a box, or even if you bought a new one or you buy, and you can see a hole there. Or you can not see a hole there. We will put it this way. If you got a small tiny weight, an extra weight on the back of here, and if I just move the camera light, that is what it should look like. If you have got an extra tiny weight on there, there is a good chance you do not need it. Because that weight there basically is far more refined and more expensive cartridges.
99% of the time a DJ will not need that extra weight on there. So a good idea is to take it off and throw it away, seriously. Also, is the counter weight like that? Have a look around and our situation now. Can you see my firm can sit there? Now if that is the case your tonum could be doing this. Now can you see that? Now that could be one reason why your tonum is not sitting on the vinyl as it should. So, first thing if you got a small weight on the back, take it off. Second thing, move the counter weight like so. Now of course maybe you need to look at the manual. Because the counter weight should be in certain positions dependent on what actual style a straight cartridge you actually got.
Now listen, once more fact at here that quite few people overlook and that is the arm up because if the arm is actually up, then the needle will not sit on the actual vinyl. Now the moment the arm is up. I am now going to put the arm down and drop it. That is what will happen. Also very quickly and briefly, can you see now? We have got the arm resting like so. For goodness sake when the arm is resting do not have this guy here up. Because what happens is you are putting too much pressure here and you are causing this arm to push up against the rest. Also make sure the arm is rest and it is happy situated while you are not using the vinyl turntable as well.
Now here, you have 1-2 and inside that 3 bearings. What you need to do is gently hold the arm and just give it a bobble. Now again that should be, there should be tiny bit of movement there. But if you can hear it clicking and vibrating too much, there is a good chance that there is too much movement in one of these 3 bearings. So ideally what you need to do is to perhaps tighten those up. If there is no enough movement and it seems stiff. Then perhaps you need to loosen them. That is new enough of what I can explain.
Also very briefly as well, this is a different kind of cartridge. Maybe you have got one of these guys. Now you can see at that point there? Can you see that thin piece of metal? Cut of and you may need that thin piece of metal. It is like an extra weight. So check to see if that with the actual, this guy here is. Well what I say is with it. With the actual head shell because there is a good chance you might need that as well. So very briefly, this part here is a head shell. This is the actual cartridge and then at the end of that you will actually have the star light. So hope that has been a help, a little bit of an insight. Do not forget, if you have got any more info organize with me, practice and enjoy.
