Folks, it is Jonathan here. This is a video going out to Big Pot Junkie and anyone else who is in the same situation. Now then, have you set your Technics 1200 turntable correctly? But, is it still jumping? Have you got problems on the arms going all over the place? This could be the answer for you.
Now first of all, before you do anything, take off the cartridge and style light, very important. All you have to do is unscrew like so and remove that item. Now then, what you need to do then is take away the counterweight. And how you do that is that you simply unscrew it and move that off. Now then, what I will need to do then is only to put two fingers on ones side of the arm, two fingers on the other like so. Now then, I will let that move from side to side like so.
Now then, theoretically, what should happen is nothing. That arm should stay positively solid. It should not move at all. Now, bear in mind, do not start yanking it all over the place. Only a slight movement is necessary. Now then, if you feel a bit of give there, in other words, what you find is that you can feel something tapping inside there, what it means is that either one, two or three in the back there, if I show you just around the back side there, hopefully you can see it, there, one of these is loose. Now basically, what these are, you can see in the center there a very, very tiny screw. Now that screw on the other part of that is a very tiny point. Now that point is actually situated inside a bearing. And of course in that bearing, you got tiny, tiny small ball bearings. If that point is not securely in, there is going to be movement. But, I must stress, it must not be in too much. If it is in too much, there would not be enough movement on this arm. Now again, there is a happy medium. I must stress this as well, if you are not happy with doing this sort of procedure, then please get professional advice.
Now also, what you need to check especially if you bought a second hand turntable. Can you see where my finger is? There you go. You can see there a gap. Now, that gap there should be exactly the same as the gap at the other side which of course you cannot see, which is off camera. If one side is slightly bigger than the other, that means that this arm is not set correctly, which could be your problem. Now also, you got another bearing up here as well. If that is too tight, then of course, there is not going to be enough movement. This has to be free flowing. So, just another way of checking to make sure that your arm is set correctly.
Thanks for watching. Practice and enjoy.
